Personal Disaster Assistance Team volunteers are needed to provide assistance to people who are facing personal disasters such as house fires or flooding. The assistance, which could include shelter, food, clothing and personal items, is provided in-person and by phone to people within a 100 km of Brandon. Volunteers respond to calls evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
Emergency Response Team volunteers help ensure people affected by disaster have access to their basic needs, such as food clothing and shelter. They provide a registration and inquiry service that reunites families separated by disaster. Red Cross volunteers also help ensure those affected can access information and support from other community and government resources to help them get back on their feet. Although not required, weekday availability would be a definite asset.
Reception/Administrative support that includes responding to telephone and in-person inquiries in a pleasant, professional manner. Sort, log and distribute incoming mail, including courier deliveries. Perform duties such as data entry, photocopying, faxing and scanning current medial articles.
First Aid Team
First Aid Committee Members work with FA Team and Community Outreach Coordinator in approving requests for service, setting objectives and planning for delivery of service and fundraising. As a representative of the Red Cross, committee members present a professional image and conduct to the community.
SmartStart Workshop Facilitators deliver injury prevention workshops to newcomers to Canada, using powerpoint, demonstration with props, and verbal instruction. Experience in public speaking, facilitating workshops, and/or instructing, especially in an EAL format or setting is beneficial. Cultural awareness and sensitivity is required.
