Tundra Oil & Gas is Manitoba-based oil and gas exploration and Production Company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Winnipeg-based James Richardson & Sons, Limited. Tundra’s head office is located in Winnipeg and has offices in Virden and Calgary. Tundra is recognized as the largest oil producer in Manitoba, has invested close to 3 billion dollars since 1980, creating jobs and economic activity while in the process of exploring for oil in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

 

Tundra continues to grow and we are looking for an Electrical Engineer – 1 -year term (subject to operational requirements, there is the potential for this position beyond the specified term)in our Virden, Manitoba office. 

 

 

 

This is a newly created position within our Facilities and Construction Department.  Reporting to the Facilities and Construction Manager, some specific duties and responsibilities of the Electrical Engineer include but are not limited to:

 

  • Prepare project cost estimates and send out request for quotations to suppliers for accurate quotes.
  • Develop plans, designs, drawings, and project schedules for facilities projects.
  • Direct the Construction Team in implementing and carrying out all facilities projects in a safe and cost-effective manner, ensuring that all Quality Control and Quality Assurance is in place.
  • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to.
  • Outsource engineering assistance on projects if required, and serve the role of Project Manager on those projects.
  • Perform regular property inspections of facilities to ensure all facilities are up to code and compliant with applicable codes and regulations. 
  • Stay current with ongoing industry changes and new technology and communicate them accordingly.
  • Work with Manitoba Hydro Inspections on ongoing issues and upcoming projects.
  • Prepare and/or approve Area Classification drawings.
  • Duties include:
    • Prepare Single line drawings
    • Underground cable installation schedules/drawings
    • Cable Schedule and Voltage Drop calculations
    • Arc Flash Study
    • Correcting/Planning Trip settings on breakers
    • Updating electrical drawing packages for existing locations
    • Sizing harmonic filters
    • ESP electrical equipment sizing
    • Service calculations for new or modified installations
    • Prepare bill of materials and drawing packages for jobs that could go out for bid
    • Provide contractors with wiring methods on new installations/upgrades
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Engineer’s-in-Training and approve the E.I.T. work through APEGM.

  

Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

 

  • Registered Professional Engineering designation

  • Minimum of 5 years of Electrical Engineering experience as a Professional Engineer

  • Thorough working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code. 

  • Understanding of and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings – SLD, PFD, P&ID’s, Isometrics, plot plans, surveys, & Area Class.
  • Capability to sign off on engineered project and P. Eng. stamped drawings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential.
  • Oilfield Operations and production knowledge is considered an asset. 
  • Knowledge of, and willingness to achieve certification in
    • TDG
    • WHMIS
    • Defensive Driving
    • Arch flash training
    • H2S Alive and First Aid & CPR safety training
    • Ground Disturbance training
  • Is a strategic and proactive thinker.  Thinks critically and acts logically to evaluate situations and generate required steps to ensure success. 
  • Prior experience with developing policies, procedures, and standards and ensuring they are adhered to.
