Tundra Oil & Gas is Manitoba-based oil and gas exploration and Production Company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Winnipeg-based James Richardson & Sons, Limited. Tundra’s head office is located in Winnipeg and has offices in Virden and Calgary. Tundra is recognized as the largest oil producer in Manitoba, has invested close to 3 billion dollars since 1980, creating jobs and economic activity while in the process of exploring for oil in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. 

Tundra continues to grow and we are looking for an Facilities Technician – 1 year term in our Virden, Manitoba office.  

Reporting to the Facilities and Construction Manager, some specific duties and responsibilities of the Facilities Technician include but are not limited to:

•Oversee and manage all construction related to injection well conversions company wide. 

•Assess and optimize injection pumps and source wells to minimize restriction in different injection systems.

•Track injection well conversions to build and execute a cathodic protection program

•Assist operations with bacteria control methods in injection networks

•Design and research new technology for secondary recovery methods and adapt to them accordingly.

•Assess the needs for new facilities based on the development plans brought forth from each of the Business Development Teams.

•Assess and propose solutions to facilities concerns brought forward by Operations.

•Develop plans, designs, drawings, and project schedules for facilities projects.

•Liaison with the Procurement Department to acquire the proper equipment for each facility project.

•Be held accountable for the facilities capital budget in the Technologist’s respective team areas. Report budget vs. actual spending and project progress reports on a monthly basis to Business Development Teams.

•Direct the Construction Team in implementing and carrying out all facilities projects in a safe and cost-effective manner, ensuring that all Quality Control and Quality Assurance is in place.

•Plan, optimize, and monitor the use of resources to ensure project objectives are achieved. 

•Monitor all facilities projects including daily reports and cost tracking from the Construction Team.

•Oversee all project costs to ensure completion within budget. Procure extra budget funding where necessary. 

•Observe that Safe Work Practices are being followed during site visits. 

•Attend Facilities & Construction Team meetings to review the ongoing and upcoming construction projects within the team. Share any experiences or learnings that may help other members of the Team in their current or future work.

•Oversee total construction effort to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with code, design, budget, and schedule. 

•Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to.

•Ensure all facilities are up to code and compliant with any relevant legislation in the Technician’s respective team areas. 

•Manage underground infrastructure maps in the Technologist’s respective team areas. 

•Perform regular property inspections of facilities in the Technician’s respective team areas. 

•Keep current with ongoing industry changes and new technology and adapt to them accordingly. 

•Seek approval from and report to Management as required, identify and forecast all included project costs, prepare annual budgets for approval. 

•Other duties as required.


Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:

•Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, 2-year Technical Diploma, or High School Diploma with a minimum of three years oilfield experience is required.

•Oilfield production and operations knowledge is considered a definite asset. 

•Understanding of and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings – PFD, P&ID’s, Isometrics, plot plans, and surveys.

•Certificate in Project Management considered an asset.

•Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

•AutoCAD Training considered an asset.

•H2S Alive and First Aid & CPR safety training. 

•Knowledge of, and willingness to achieve certification in



o Confined Space

o Defensive Driving

o Ground Disturbance Level II training.  

•Able to interact productively with individuals from a wide range of industry backgrounds and experiences.

•Demonstrates good attention to detail. 

•Able to achieve desired results by encouraging and supporting the contributions of others.

•Position requires most of the Technician’s time be spent in the office. 

•Must be willing to work overtime, when necessary. 

•Adhere to the safety accountabilities as per Tundra’s Safety Policy.
