Towards a Brandon Food Council

Towards a

Brandon Food Council

Food Councils are popping up all over Canada in an effort to provide a cooperative and

collaborative system and vision for organizations and individuals interested in or

working with food. This holistic structure takes a ground up approach that is

conscious of how our food system impacts our community.

To date, Brandon has created a Brandon Food Charter and a Community Food Assessment

which lay the groundwork for the creation of a Brandon Food Council.

Through partnership between Food Matters Manitoba, the Brandon Poverty Committee

and the Global market, consultations on the possibility of a Brandon Food Council were held

and we are ready to share what we’ve learned from these conversations.

Join us on Wednesday, January 24th 2018

from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm

Brandon City Hall

410 9th st

To learn how a Brandon Food Council could support

Brandon in becoming a healthier city that

grows good food for all.

This is a great time to come together as a community,

from those who provide services to those who experience difficulties

accessing healthy, nutritious food. Food has no borders, and individuals of all ages,

genders and ancestry are welcome and

invited to participate in this exciting conversation.

Business for Breakfast: Let's Talk Mental Health
People today are talking more and more about Mental Health including in the workplace. Join us for breakfast and hear the story of one of Bell’s Let’s Talk Ambassadors, All-Star Middle Linebacker Shea Emry.

Meet Shea Emry:
All-Star Middle Linebacker, Shea Emry, was one of the fiercest and nastiest players in Canadian football. He has recently retired and has been tackling on a new field: men’s health. Sidelined with an injury, Emry battled trials of the past, including negative self-image and a lifetime of upholding the machismo standards of masculinity in professional sport. Immersed in a culture that expects men to mask their feelings, Emry recognized the toxic silence of manliness was affecting more than just him. Using his platform in professional sport, Emry founded Wellmen, a movement that proves being a ‘real man’ is about being a balanced man.

Emry uses the seeming strength of an axe and vulnerability of tree pose blended into an experience which opens one’s heart to the possibilities of transparency and freedom. He is inspiring a rewilding of the culture of masculinity, one that accepts a more whole and complete human. No part, tear, feeling or grunt left out.
