We will draw from poems and stories in the literary canon to exemplify what works and why. Refreshments will be provided.

No writing experience is required to enjoy this one-off Creative Writing Workshop. Please register ahead of time at the Adult Services Desk of the Brandon Library, by phone at 204-727-6648, or by emailing Danielle at danielle@wmrl.ca.

Melanie Schnell's first novel, While the Sun is Above Us, has been called "powerful," "moving," and "profound." Melanie lives under the yawning blue skies of Saskatchewan with her young son Gabriel where she teaches and writes.

GoManitoba Information Session

GoManitoba is an online transportation tool to help Manitobans save time, money and the environment, all in one app!

Green Action Centre is pleased to travel to Brandon this February to meet with community stakeholders to grow the base of support for GoManitoba.

WHY GOMANITOBA?

This transportation tool allows users to find carpooling partners as well as cycling, walking or transit buddies for their daily commute to work. With features like gamification and rewards programs, Canadian ownership and data storage, and a user-friendly website and app, it goes well beyond simply matching carpool partners.

GET A CUSTOM SUBSITE FOR YOUR WORKPLACE

Creating an environment where driving alone is not the optimal way to travel offers many benefits for employers, institutions, staff and students. Expanding commuting options offer you the opportunity to:

  • increase employee health

  • improve productivity

  • reduce absenteeism

  • achieve a mandate on sustainability

  • meet your goals for corporate social responsibility

  • reduce parking pressures and potentially lower maintenance costs

  • add fun to the commute and extend social networks

There are many benefits to having your own dedicated subsite on GoManitoba.

  • Custom Branding and URL: Your workplace’s branding, text and images.

  • Multi-modal Solution: Supports all sustainable travel options like carpooling, cycling, walking, transit and telecommuting.

  • Advanced Matching Technology: RideShark’s matching algorithms are the most advanced in the world. They match users based on proximity to origin, destination, actual travel route, and personal preferences.

  • Incentives & Gamification: Reward your users for logging their trips. You set the rules and incentives!

  • 24/7 Administrative Portal: Access your information at any time securely. Filter, map, export your data at any time.

  • And MORE!

RBC Training Ground: Olympic Talent Search in Brandon

COULD YOU BE AN OLYMPIAN? OLYMPIC TALENT SEARCH COMES TO BRANDON

On Saturday February 24, 2018, Olympic officials will be bringing RBC Training Ground - the search for young athletes with raw talent - to Manitoba for the first time ever by hosting an event in Brandon.

RBC Training Ground gives local athletes - no matter what sport they are involved in - the chance to test their strength, speed, power and endurance in front of officials from 14 Olympic sports, and earn 'Future Olympian' funding.

This Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) and RBC initiative to bring new and undiscovered athletes into Canada's Olympic talent pool is an open talent discovery event. There is NO CHARGE to participate. The Brandon event is one of more than 30 local combines happening across the country in 2018 (Winnipeg will host events on March 17 and April 14 - full schedule at rbctrainingground.ca ).

Top performers in Brandon (any athletes deemed to have Olympic potential) will advance to a Manitoba regional final in Winnipeg on May 5, 2018, or begin further testing with specific sports.

In addition to training support from a national sport organization the athlete may not have considered, top performers also win 'Future Olympian' financial support from RBC.

THERE IS NO CHARGE TO PARTICIPATE. Any athletes from the region (between the ages of 14 and 25) curious about whether they might be suited to an Olympic sport are encouraged to sign up in advance at rbctrainingground.ca

At the event they will be measured for anthropometric suitability (things like wingspan and body type) and perform speed, power, strength and endurance benchmark tests in front of officials from the Canadian Olympic Committee and 14 national sport organizations in hopes of reenergizing a dream or being discovered and directed toward an Olympic sport.
