In The Footsteps of Vimy-The Royal Canadian Artillery Museum

In the Footsteps of Vimy - Temporary Exhibit

The RCA Museum (Royal Canadian Artillery Museum) in Shilo, Manitoba is running a new temporary exhibit entitled "In the Footsteps of Vimy". This exhibit commemorates the 100th anniversary of The Battle of Vimy, a battle that was significant in the recognition of Canada as an independent country. The exhibit runs until November 30th, 2017.

The RCA Museum is an award winning, national Artillery Museum, a Manitoba Star Attraction and one of the larges military museums in the country. Also, The Gun Park (outdoors) features 35 additional artillery pieces and military vehicles. The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. The museum will be open 7 days a week from the May long weekend until September 5th, at which time we go back to 5 days a week.

The Museum is wheelchair accessible and has plenty of R.V. parking in air conditioned comfort.

Canadian Cancer Society Westman Relay for Life 2017

On June 3rd, 2017, the Canadian Cancer Society will hold it's annual Westman Relay for Life Fundraiser event at the Keystone Center grounds from 2-11pm.  

Come on out and show you support for friends and family who have been affected by cancer. There will be LOTS of local businesses and entertainment involved with the event, providing family fun for everyone! Music, children's entertainment, games, and local vendors galore!
The Relay for Life is the flagship fundraiser for the CCS, and needs your help supporting vital, groundbreaking cancer treatment research, support and care programs, and many other assistance efforts. Walk, jog, or run, and show your support!
Please register your team at www.relayforlife.ca, or contact Deanna Danielson at the CCS office at 204 571 2800, and start fundraising with your team today

There will be tables with handcrafted and homemade items for babies, kids and moms! There is also some tables with vendors selling products that can relate to kids and stuff for moms! 

Children are welcome! In fact there will be a table for kids with free candy!

Admission is free but there will be a jar for donations that all the proceeds will go to westman dreams for kids.

East end community centre is the community centre by the water tower!

Library Creative Writing Program

Are you interested in writing poetry? Fiction of any length? Journalling? Essays? scripts? All are welcome in the new Creative Writing Program at the Brandon Public Library.

The Library Creative Writing Program is free and open to anyone over the age of 16. We will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of the month during June, July, and August, at 7 pm in the Library Meeting Room.

Relaxed and supportive, the Library Creative Writing Program will follow a workshop model. With professional facilitation from a library staff member and published writer, participants will meet twice monthly to share writing in progress and give and receive feedback. No previous writing experience is required.

A public reading and open mic event will be held on the last evening of the session, August 24, where program participants and members of the public have the opportunity to present their writing.

The 2017 Special Olympics Manitoba Provincial Summer Games are coming to Brandon! Approximately 200 volunteers will be needed to help put on the best Games ever. There are volunteer positions for families, social groups, individuals, young and old. Volunteer positions include sport venue volunteers (e.g. scorekeepers, marshals, results), opening and closing ceremonies, security, hospitality, info/merchandise table attendants, medical, social media assistants, photographers, and newsletter contributors. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, please contact 1-888-333-9179 or lcamaso@specialolympics.mb.ca. Come and be part of the action as our athletes compete to show off their best athletic potential!
