Awesome August is a drop in kids activities camp for ages 5-12

Aug 1,2,7,8,14,15,16 from 1:30-4:00 in the afternoon at the Alexandra community gardens by Betty Gibson School!

Lots of fun with a fantastic group of responsible teens giving energetic leadership! Games, snacks, crafts, shade, sprinklers, stories!

Registration is free! This is a community project sponsored by the Brandon Neighborhood Renewal Corporation and the Gate Church Community.

The Brandon Embroiderers meet every 2nd and 4th week of the month on Wednesdays. The group meets from 1:30pm to 3:30pm to stitch, do workshops, to share project they are doing. Juno Beach Centre - Travelling Exhibit

 

 

A travelling exhibition entitled From Vimy to Juno: Canada in France 1914-45 is now open at the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo. This national travelling exhibition explores the connections between defining moments in Canadian history and the experiences of Canadians who fought in both world wars. From Vimy to Juno was developed by the Juno Beach Centre, Canada’s only museum on the D-Day Landing beaches in Normandy, France.  This exhibition will run from July 12th to August 25th.

Exhibition Opening #4 Wasagaming Community Arts

Wasagaming Community Arts formally invites you to the fourth exhibition of our 2017 season, featuring works by artists Josh Humphries and Chris Reid. The exhibition official opening will take place on Friday, July 28th, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, giving attendees a chance to meet and greet the artists.

Josh Humphries is a Winnipeg artist behind "Mazing By Josh" His interactive art is a unique mixture of colourful abstract with a maze woven into the background to master! 

CHRIS REID
Chris Reid lives in Brandon, Manitoba where she divides her time between her employment and her arts practice. She credits her husband and her children (who are adults) with providing support, encouragement and really tough critiques of her work that keep her always striving to do more. Reid's work has been exhibited in galleries and artist-run centres across Canada. 

The exhibition will run until August 15th. Gallery hours are from 10:00am to 5:30pm daily.

Performer and magician Ryan Price has created this year's show, "A Reading Adventure: Tales from Home," to complement the library's Summer Reading Club, and to help celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. "A Reading Adventure" encourages children to use their imagination while reading to bring books to life. Ryan is a full time professional entertainer who uses magic and puppetry in this fast-paced, magical show.

PASCAR's Trench Works Race Day

The 4th race of the season at the Souris Raceway... come and see your local racers at the grass roots of racing... dirt track racing!!

 

A REMINDER


Races are at the PASCAR Souris Airport Raceway at 1 PM... and there is no cost to attend.

This race – August 13th – is hosted by Trench Works!!

PASCAR's primary focus is a 4 cylinder stock car class... that includes cars like:

* Chev Cavaliers
* Pontiac Sunbirds
* Dodge Neon (fastest car last year!! – winner of the first race in 2016)
* Ford Mustang or Escorts
* Nissan
* Porsch 924 or 944 (Yes!! A Porsche!!)
* Honda/Acura Integra
* Toyota MR2 (winner of the last race in 2015)
* and many more....

PASCAR is a volunteer based non-profit group promoting motorsport in our region, please come out on Sunday, at 1 PM and support keeping our roads safe by educating and providing a venue to take racing off the street... and put it on the track.

So, mark it in your calendar and plan to come out and have fun at our 4th race day of the 2017 season!!

Juno Beach Centre - Travelling Exhibit

 

 

A travelling exhibition entitled From Vimy to Juno: Canada in France 1914-45 is now open at the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo. This national travelling exhibition explores the connections between defining moments in Canadian history and the experiences of Canadians who fought in both world wars. From Vimy to Juno was developed by the Juno Beach Centre, Canada’s only museum on the D-Day Landing beaches in Normandy, France.  This exhibition will run from July 12th to August 25th.

Final Exhibition Opening, Wasagaming Community Arts
Wasagaming Community Arts formally invites you to the fifth and final exhibition of our 2017 season, featuring works by artists Weiming Zhao and Kati Nagy. We will also be presenting the works by visitors of Riding Mountain that have been collected throughout the season as part of our “150 Faces of Canada” exhibition. The official opening will take place on Friday, August 18th, 2017 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, giving attendees a chance to meet and greet the artists.

Throughout the summer, visitors of Riding Mountain National Park are encouraged to create self-portraits to embrace the multi-culturalism and diversity of our country. WCA invites visitors to come a see our collection of 150 portraits collected over the course of the season. Please join us in celebration of our country's birthday.

"Beyond Sight"
 
Kati Nagy works in both watercolor and graphite. Her artwork focuses on the aspect of growth in life that often goes unobserved. Beyond Sight is an exploration of intuition and trust.
 
Weiming Zhao
 
"Chasing Light and Colour"
 
Weiming Zhao is a Brandon-based artist who has been painting en plein air for the past 14 years almost on a daily basis, has built up an portfolio of over 5000 works, and has had 17 solo exhibitions. Many of his works are in Manitoba Provincial Art Collection as well as in private collections.
 
The pianist Luis Ramirez and singer Jaimie Rose will be performing during the opening.The exhibition will run until September 5th. Gallery hours are from 10:00am to 5:30pm daily.

Juno Beach Centre - Travelling Exhibit

 

 

A travelling exhibition entitled From Vimy to Juno: Canada in France 1914-45 is now open at the RCA Museum at CFB Shilo. This national travelling exhibition explores the connections between defining moments in Canadian history and the experiences of Canadians who fought in both world wars. From Vimy to Juno was developed by the Juno Beach Centre, Canada’s only museum on the D-Day Landing beaches in Normandy, France.  This exhibition will run from July 12th to August 25th.

Our Fall & Winter Grand reopening is Thursday August 24th.  

 

We will be closed Aug 18th to 23rd to restock the entire store with generously donated Fall & Winter items.  When we reopen, the shelves will be brimming with brand name nearly new clothing for the whole family.  We will also have a good selection of lovely new items still with tags.  It isn't just about clothes either.  All of our inventory will be refreshed, including housewares, boardgames & collectables.  As always, our entire stock will be at fabulous Nearly New prices!

Youth Portrait Drawing Program
All youth ages 8 to 12 are invited to this free portrait drawing workshop, offered by the Brandon Library and the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM).
 
At 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 24, we will meet in the AGSM lobby for a guided walkthrough of artist Meryl McMaster's self-portrait exhibit, Confluence.
 
We will then head downstairs to the Library Program Room for a program in portrait drawing. How do you draw a face to look like a face? How do you know where to position the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth? How do you make a nose really look like a nose? Learn all this and more.
 
Participants will have the opportunity to draw themselves, a friend, a character from a favourite story, or a face from their imagination. In fact, in the span of the program you will be able to try several options.

Wasagaming Community Arts formally invites you to the fifth and final exhibition of our 2017 season, featuring works by artists Weiming Zhao and Kati Nagy. Kati Nagy works in both watercolor and graphite. Her artwork focuses on the aspect of growth in life that often goes unobserved. Beyond Sight is an exploration of intuition and trust.
 
Weiming Zhao
 
"Chasing Light and Colour"
 
Weiming Zhao is a Brandon-based artist who has been painting en plein air for the past 14 years almost on a daily basis, has built up an portfolio of over 5000 works, and has had 17 solo exhibitions. Many of his works are in Manitoba Provincial Art Collection as well as in private collections.
 
The pianist Luis Ramirez and singer Jaimie Rose will be performing during the opening.The exhibition will run until September 5th. Gallery hours are from 10:00am to 5:30pm daily.

Fort Ellice Invasive Tree Take-down Volunteer Event

Join Nature Conservancy of Canada staff at our Fort Ellice Property for the day, and help improve prairie and grassland bird habitat by removing non-native trees and shrubs that are invading the mixed-grass prairie.

Afterwards wander the area where the last Fort Ellice once stood and learn about the history of the site and the amazing diversity of species that call it home.

Wheat City Lawn Bowling for anyone over 10 years old (an excellent intergenerational sport), offered every evening Monday to Thursday from May 29 - September 28, 2017. Pick an evening and come!  Arrive at 6:40 pm, Start at 7:00 pm.  All equipment available, instruction provided for new bowlers.  

First night free, subsequent games $5.00/game or purchase a season membership.

Season Membership for new members:  $55.00

Season Membership for former members: $80.00

Wheat City Lawn Bowling Club is also available for rentals for social events, family reunions, wind-ups, etc.  Cost: $5.00/person

Brandon Embroiderers

The Brandon Embroiderers meet every 2nd and 4th week of the month on Wednesdays. The group meets from 1:30pm to 3:30pm to stitch, do workshops, to share project they are doing. Anyone one is welcome to come. There are experience embroiderers if you need a hand or just want to be inspired and share your projects.

INVICTUS GAMES Flag ceremony

 

The journey to the Invictus Games will travel through Brandon today! The official flag of the Games will stop at the Veterans’ Memorial adjacent to the Brandon Armoury Wednesday August 30th, at 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend this celebration of the upcoming games and the over 500 veterans and serving soldiers from 15 nations who will compete in the Games in Toronto in September. The Invictus Games were created by Prince Harry in 2014 as a means to honour and help those wounded in service to their country through the power of rehabilitative sports.
