Description

Custodian / Bus Driver needed at Christian Heritage School weekdays from 7:00am-10:00am (15 hrs/week) from November 26, 2018 – June 30, 2019.

Also, see advertisement for Janitorial position (25 hrs/week) from November 26, 2018 – June 30, 2019, at the bottom of the Custodian advertisement.  These positions can be combined into one position. Be clear if you’re applying for them as one position (40 hrs/week).

Custodial / Bus Driver Duties

·         With a Class 4 license, drive the CHS bus to pick up CHS students every day at 8:20am, from Neelin High School. Occasionally drive bus for field trips.

·         Communicate regularly with the Principal, cooperate with other staff members

·         Keep sidewalks, entrances, walkways, and emergency exits clear and hazard free (ie. sweep dirt and rocks, shovel and snow-blow snow, spread salt, etc.) (daily)

·         Ensure the facility’s systems (civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical) are operational and appropriately set (daily)

·         Maintain the ice rink during the winter months (daily)

·         Complete minor projects requiring carpentry or painting repairs

·         Procure small furniture, minor maintenance material, and minor tools judiciously

·         Perform safety checks of the grounds / play structures, report to the Principal (weekly)

·         Install and maintain classroom furniture and related items (ie. shelving, cabinetry, projectors, Smart Boards, whiteboards, cables, etc.), update signboard outside

·         Respond to AAA Alarm calls after school hours, include in monthly report

·         Keep necessary records and maintenance manuals up to date and catalogued

·         Contact Fire Department, Police Services, City of Brandon, MB Hydro, as necessary

·         Contract Trades for annual, regular, or needed inspections, checks, and repairs

·         Supervise / Host consultants and contractors in the execution of their work

·         Execute special projects as needed (may include organizing contractors and volunteers)

·         Respond to clean up messes in the building (ie. plugged toilet, mess on the floor, etc.)

·         Inform the Principal and Physical Resource Committee of larger required maintenance or repairs, recorded in monthly report

·         Cut keys, pick up janitorial supplies from Prairie West Products

·         Check fluids in bus, snow blower, lawn care equipment; perform minor maintenance

·         Cut grass and weed whack as needed, minor trimming of trees / bushes

·         Wash bus when dirty, bring Bus to Superior Auto for maintenance and safety checks

·         Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Principal

SKILLS

Knowledge

·         Basic knowledge of carpentry, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems is required

·         WHMIS certification

·         Use of computers for checking email, creating word documents, reviewing documents, researching, trouble shooting

·         Reading and understanding staff maintenance requests

·         Writing skills for composing memos to staff, month end reports, weekly ground safety-check reports

·         Mathematical skills for carpentry and minor repairs, inventory control, drilling holes, etc.

·         Communication and relationship skills working with Principal, staff, and students.  There is a need to respectfully interact with the public and represent the school well.

EFFORT

Physical

·         The job is physical in nature

·         Continual requirement for walking / standing / bending / lifting / holding  /climbing / crouching and working in awkward positions

Sensory Demands

·         Concentration and alertness is necessary in all situations working with equipment, chemicals, climbing ladders

·         Interruptions and distractions do occur

WORKING CONDITIONS

·         There is some exposure to adverse environment conditions, including the weather.  Exposure to hazardous chemicals, bodily fluids, waste, odour, dirt, rust, filth, oil, fumes, and awkward or limiting work spaces

·         Safety precautions are expected which means wearing safety glasses and safety boots/shoes, being WHMIS certified, using respiratory equipment, wearing gloves, using ear protection, wearing a hard hat, and wearing protective clothing.

 

Janitor needed at Christian Heritage School (25 hrs/week) from November 26, 2018 – June 30, 2019.

Janitorial Duties

DEscriptION

·         Communicate regularly with the Principal, cooperate with other staff members

·         Sweep floors (daily)

·         Mop floors (daily)

·         Vacuum entrance carpets and classroom carpets (daily)

·         Vacuum spaces that are carpeted (library, staff lounge, stairs) (2x per week)

·         Remove garbage and recycling, indoor and outdoor (daily)

·         Clean Bathrooms (5) and Water Fountains (2) (daily)

·         Replenish supplies (Paper towel / toilet paper / soap / hand sanitizer dispensers)

·         Manage Inventory: Order supplies

 

SKILL

Knowledge

·         Ability to follow simple, structured procedures and directions during daily activities

·         Ability to maintain sanitary and clean facilities by using cleaning skills, a vacuum cleaner, cleaning chemicals, wet mop, and other job-related tools

·         WHMIS certification

·         Workplace Safety and Health regulations

·         Reading and understanding specific instructions

·         Writing skills for composing memos to staff, reports to the Principal, etc.

·         Mathematical skills to calculate the amount of materials needed (ie. cleaning chemicals to water ratios, etc.)

·         Communication and relationship skills working with Principal, staff, and students.  There is a need to respectfully interact with the public and represent the school well.

·         The job is physical in nature (ie. mopping, sweeping, emptying water buckets, lifting garbage and recycling bags, moving furniture and boxes of supplies, etc.)

·         Continual requirement for walking / standing / bending / lifting / holding  /climbing / crouching and occasionally working in awkward positions

·         Concentration and alertness is necessary in all situations working with equipment, chemicals, climbing ladders, etc.

·         Most tasks are repetitive in nature

·         Interruptions and distractions do occur
