Heavy snowfall on the way?

Just in time after the most recent dumping of snow has almost melted, by the link below it looks like more is on the way for much if not all of the eBrandon area. With highs forecasted in the minuses for the foreseeable future, this one might just have a chance of staying. Below is a special weather statement put out early this morning by Environment Canada:

----------

Special weather statement for:
City of Winnipeg
Steinbach - St. Adolphe - Dominion City - Vita - Richer
Selkirk - Gimli - Stonewall - Woodlands - Eriksdale
Dugald - Beausejour - Grand Beach
Portage la Prairie - Headingley - Brunkild - Carman
Morden - Winkler - Altona - Emerson - Morris
Bissett - Nopiming Provincial Park - Pine Falls
Whiteshell - Lac du Bonnet - Pinawa
Sprague - Northwest Angle Provincial Forest
Brandon - Carberry - Treherne
Dauphin - Roblin - Winnipegosis
Minnedosa - Neepawa - Russell - Riding Mountain National Park
Killarney - Pilot Mound - Manitou
Melita - Boissevain - Turtle Mountain Provincial Park
Virden - Souris.

Significant snowfall possible Saturday.

A storm system developing over the central American Rockies is
forecast to spread an area of snow over Southern Manitoba Friday
night into Saturday. Snow may become heavy at times Saturday with increasing northeast winds. There remains some uncertainty about the track and intensity of this storm system but at this point it Appears the heaviest snow with this event will fall mainly Along and south of the transcanada corridor. 10 to 20 cm of snow is possible in these areas by Sunday morning with locally higher
amounts. Watches and warnings may be required for this system later today or Friday so the public is advised to monitor future forecasts as this winter storm approaches.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment
Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca

http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/warnings/SWS_bulletins_e.html?prov=mb

----------

As of right now the forecast for Brandon itself calls for 5cm Friday and more snow on Saturday. The same system currently has Southern Saskatchewan under a snowfall warning for 15-25 cm.

Warning

Warning is now in place for whats being referred to as a "major snowstorm"

--------------------------

Snowfall warning for
Brandon - Carberry - Treherne issued

Major snowstorm this weekend.

A Colorado low is poised to affect Southern Manitoba, including the City of Winnipeg, this weekend.

Low pressure is gathering over the Rocky Mountains this afternoon, as moisture gets drawn northward ahead of it and cold air drops south of the 49th parallel. This combination will set up a major snowstorm for Southern Manitoba.

Snow, heavy at times, will begin Friday afternoon over southwest portions of the province and will steadily spread eastward throughout the night. By Saturday morning, most of the warning areas will see falling snow, which will be heaviest during the day Saturday.

Total snowfall amounts from this snowstorm are expected in the 15 to 25 cm range, although some pockets of up to 30 cm are possible, especially near the Turtle Mountains and east of Riding mountain National Park.

Although winds won'T be particularly strong, the combination of heavy snowfall and winds in the 30 km/h range will likely produce near-zero visibility at times. Motorists should be prepared for very poor driving conditions across much of Southern Manitoba on Saturday.

The heavy snow will finally taper off Saturday night, although some light snow may linger over the eastern half of the province on Sunday.

why is

a 2cm dump now considered major? We are turning into a society of alrmists. It's winter. It's going to snow. At times heavily. Big deal. Love it and deal with it or go somewhere warm until May.
This just in, there is a potential for very cold weather from now until MArch. At times possibly life threatening. Dress accordingl......

And another thing....

Why do all of our snow storms seem to come from Colorado? Who said we wanted this much snow all at once, anyway??? 0;-}

I will

believe it when I see it. Although I probably will see it but so far environment Canada are the only ones predicting that much snow. Just checked theweathernetwork.ca and at most they are saying 80% chance of 5-10cm on Saturday. No biggie.

just on T.W.N and the 15-25cm warning is on there now too. But you're right, we will still probably only see 5-10!

There is a difference. But if the 18 cms diff doesn't matter to you, then please come over and shovel the driveway

5-10cm

Is enough to shovel. Hopefully people will SLOW DOWN and not spin their vehicles, keep a distance on the road and not risk it in white out or blowing snow conditions if not necessary. Stay safe and enjoy the mild winter days. Looks likes some sun in the forecast coming up.

Blizzard?! What Blizzard!?

A famous line came from the Maritime provinces where I came from: "I hate snow, I hate each and every snowflake individually." This comes from an area where 90 cm of snow per storm is normal, plus 100km/hr winds. This "blizzard" of 20-25cm is a mere dusting. hahaha! Hey, this much snow had Toronto call on the Canadian Army to rescue them. Did we all move to southern Ontario? Better get water rations and candles and some tube steak and beans! It's weather.

Colorado just legalized pot.... shouldn't we be getting Colorado highs now???

I just hope this doesn't ruin my road-trip to see The Pumps/Orphan in Winnipeg on Saturday.

.....

Meh....I am headed to Ontario for the weekend and a little shopping in the US. I am hopeful we get that amount as I really would like to put my snow blower to use. I don't think we will get that much if there is wind. We will get snow but if it's blowing it will just make things miserable. I am hoping for some cold weather....gotta freeze those lakes so I can get some ice fishing in.

Shilo + Rememberance Day = guaranteed generally bad weather. I have never been on a Remeberance Day parade in the last 23+ years that didn't have glare ice and cold weather, or some simblance of a snow storm for the parade. The military special orders it every year.

Personally I think it puts things in perspective.
