terrible bouncers at the bar

tonight my friends and I went to a local bar in Brandon, we were being threatened by 3 people at the bar and told the bouncers who did nothing about it. One of the girls finally left but came back in a few minutes later. We told the manager of the bar that there would be a fight and he did nothing about it. I ended up getting jumped outside of the bar by two of the girls and the bouncers stood around, did nothing and said they were bored..this is a disgrace and I am so upset that this would happen.

Wow

That is terrible. It will take someone getting seriously hurt or killed to get things changed, unfortunetly.

I have mixed opinions

It has been years since I was at a "Bar" but since when to girls brawl?? If people can't handle their booze then a bar situation may not be ideal. Secondly, yes, if there is trouble brewing it is the Bouncers job to sort it out. Bar's have become a scary place rather than a place to have a few drinks, dance and hang out with your friends.

same thing happened

to me! i was actually attacked but some girl who worked there but was off drinking that night. and then a security grabbed me and held me why she was continueing to hit me...

ive messaged the hotel. i am hoping to get a reply soon. they are looking into it. you should contact the loss/security of the hotel or CEO and they will forward it. maybe if everyone did this then they would have to start training security, as well as maybe feel the pressure and their ego of "authority" wouldnt go to their head!

and your gonna do what----

If this is happening in public places do you not think it may be in your best interest to contact authorities and report this malpractice of these institutions? If they get enough complaints about the same establishment they will intervene, and management will be have a forced hand! Pm me so i know where this is taking place, thanks!

piece of advice?

stay out of the bars. especially on the typical roudy nights. Go on the more calm nights if you want to go .Places like Houstons and the Road House are always wild and wooly. Find a more a better option.

As a past bouncer...

You people don't seem to want to look at it from the bouncer's point of view. How would you break up a fight between women? Do you know that women are more violent than men when it comes to beer influenced drinking. I can attest to that, that and the 4 teeth I lost from having to break up two different fights between women. You said that you went to them and told them that there was a problem before hand. How do they know who was in the right and who was in the wrong except for your word... which would be against their word! You say you got jumped by two people, how badly did you get beaten? Did you call the police when this happened?

If not, why?

That's tough

Hard situation.

We look to the bouncers to protect us, but really they are getting paid crap to deal with drunk idiots all night. Personally, you told them before anything happened so I would hope they kept an eye out for you.

But also, you mentioned there was a problem brewing. Why would you go outside with that? When I have been threatened before I will call the cops and get an escort to my car/taxi etc.

Crappy deal, but it is hard for a guy to get in between chicks brawling. One "touch" the wrong way and there is a sexual harrasment charge when he was just trying to prevent someone from getting hurt

and

obviously there was a problem between you and these girls. Why did they jump you? Not that 2 against 1 is fair by all means..but what did you do on your part to tick of the opposing chick? Fights usually happen for a reason...whether is it is just alcohol influenced or you did something to tick the other off. However, when you go to a bar there is always going to be drama and trouble somewhere in the establishment. If you don't want to be a part of it, then dont go to a bar. I'm not saying you deserved to be jumped because that is not the case. Bouncers should do their jobs, however, a stabbing happened outside a bar about a year ago and that bar still didnt do anything. So cant expect bouncers to protect. Especially because you are female. Like slimmerman said, protecting females can be more violent and they are male, i can see the drama already if they stepped into a female brawl taking place. Also, when you were threatened and you seen the bouncers were not doing anything about it, why did you not call the police and stay inside instead of going outside of the establishment?

Is it not there job to make that call?

How do they know who was in the right? I'm sure there is a fair judgement call that could be made once the bouncers have been alerted about the situation. Obviously, the threat was real and any time I've been at the bar (not sober) and you can still kind of pinpoint when something is gonna go down. How would you break up a fight between two girls? I don't know but I sure hope the bouncers and security do know how to. And as for bouncer injury in these situations, I would say it's job hazard. Police officers, firefighters, and many other hands on jobs have physical risk factors. I thank the people who are bouncers to stepping in to take on that role, but if they claim they are bored/don't want to risk getting hurt it really seems they just want the 'power' of bouncer without the responsibility.

On the other hand, maybe the bars need to put out the money for better trained bouncers and offer them a higher wage that would at least be worth the risk. I'm not sure what they make but I wouldn't be crazy about having to break up fights with an injury risk to myself for minimum wage.

I've heard numerous stories of Houston's and Roadhouse bartenders abusing their power and not dealing with situations. Or, as in, the case of the person who said something about offduty security holding them down while someone else took swings, bouncers play favorites and let their friends do whatever they want. Case and point a guy I know was blind sited by some known drug-dealer violent trouble maker. The guy the blind sited is 6'4 and 230 and got attacked by two guys on the dancefloor. Before the bouncers could break up the fight, this guy's jaw got broken. And THEN they kick HIM outside to bleed on the sidewalk and then refused to let his brother join them. The 'assailants' were allowed to stay in the bar with their bouncer friends. Then these guys race outside to inflict some more damage that eventually ended with a few of them in police custody. No thanks to the roadhouse bouncers... (this incident occurred over 2 years ago)

REGARDLESS

of what they make an hour. Lets not forget they apply for the job, and accept knowing as im sure they all have attended a bar, what kind of drama can start with people inside a licenced establishment. They are part of customer service! And are there to serve purpose of security, protecting establishment, patrons and staff! They clearly failed in this! If you dont want to do your job description it is easy to hand in resignantion. There are situations that can arrise at every job! Should we all half heartedly do our job because we dont want to deal with those hazards?

It is scary...

going to the bar these days. My bar days are over and I don't think I'd even want to go now...it's too "unknown" what could happen in a bar where people are drinking alcohol and consuming who-knows-what these days, and carrying who-knows-what also. I agree that the bouncers are there to protect the patrons of the establishment: no matter who's right and who's wrong, when a physical altercation is taking place, it is their responsibility to break up any fights, arguments, etc. so no one gets hurt. It's sad when you can't go out for drinks with friends b/c you have to keep your back against the wall b/c you won't see what's coming at you.

violent women?

I can totally agree that some women when drinkin are look out, stay away!
Maybe these establishment need to hire a women bouncer so the male bouncer doesn't have to touch a women and risk the kind of threat that could possibly transpire from such volatile situations, I know some women that would fit this job perfectly and there wouldn't be much of a fight!

Light Bulb...

Idea:If you see a problem brewing, leave before the fight happens. It will occur whether you are there or not.If you choose to stay, you are part of the problem.

back in my Unwinder days...

One bouncer on each side of me picked me up under each arm from behind and carried me backward away from the fight. There was no way in hell that I could have hurt these two HUGE guys nor did I try. (the chick that started the fight got kicked out and there was justice for all).

I don't frequent the bars but couldn't someone feeling threatened just call the cops?

Wow!!!

Not sure what bar you went too. I go to one quite regularly, and I know the guys on both the professional side and the personal side...i've seen them get busted up pretty good taking care of a fight. I've been there for the before and after affect, when I was dating a bouncer a couple of years ago. Yeah they get paid to bounce, but not paid to go to jail for having to break up a fight. The op was mad cause the bouncers did nothing, well maybe you should have been there drinking. Maybe you should have left when the other chick came back...it's called being the bigger person. If you knew something was up, and did nothing, except cry to someone, then you are just as much to blame...I'm sorry but i'm sticking with the side of the bouncers...

as for the throwing ice, I have never seen this happen, and i've been goign to the bar since i moved to brandon 16 years ago...not sure how long it's been since you have been there, but things including staff has changed over the past few years...

just my two cents...

Hmm

@Newfie, its interesting how you assume that I have not been to the bar in years. I have also known some of them on a personal level. Im not saying that all of them are alike BUT that does not change the fact it happen on more then one occasion. Thanks tho.

manager

The thing that really made me angry was that the manager did nothing to prevent the fight and then I saw him laughing right at me and my friend heard him say rude comments as I was getting beaten up....not professional at all. I did call the police to file a complaint but they couldn't do anything...they did say I could take a compliant to court, so we'll see.

dont you have to be an

adult to attend a licensed establishment?! Where have the days gone where you could go out with friends and not fear for your well-being! I could hardly believe my eyes reading some of the comments here. In my bar hopping days if you were a crap disturber in the bar you were barred from the place! I think if you cant control yourself under the influence stay at home and drink with your friends there!! When I go out (and its rare)it usually takes a great deal of planning for a sitter and what not, Id be so upset and disgusted if some drunken fool threathen my night out!!

Did I Miss Something

I am sure the OP stated "at a local Brandon bar". Nowhere was Roadhouse or Houston's ever mentioned. Last time I checked there are more than 2 bars or licensed establishments in the city!

Its always easier to blame someone else instead of possibly taking the blame yourself. Who originally was in the wrong?

I'm sure that the staff at both the previously named establishments get alot of the boy who cried wolf.

I am extremely happy to see that there are so many perfect people commenting on this post and have never been in the wrong. Maybe we all need to go to your place of work and critique your job?

No no...

not old...sensible...I used to love going out and having a few drinks and dancing but really why pay stupid prices only to have them spilled on you by drunken people? There's no room to dance anymore anyways either and don't even get me started on that idiotic idea of foam parties...gross! The bar is nothing more then a meat market, and being single myself I'd rather find quality meat elsewhere rather then hamburger from the bars...LOL
