...

A man is dead after the motorcycle he was on crashed into a van Friday afternoon just west of Brandon. A woman who was also on the motorcycle has been taken to hospital with serious, but undertermined injuries.

The man who was driving the van was also taken to hospital, also with undertermined injuries.

Police say it looks like the motorcycle was headed west on the Trans-Canada Highway at about 3 p.m. when it smashed into a van that was southbound on Highway 270.

That intersection is between Brandon and Grand Valley.

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst will be assisting with the investigation. One westbound lane on the Trans-Canada was closed. Police say they continue to investigate.

It just makes me sad, and sick, and frustrated when a senseless accident like this happens! Judging from the photo and the article...*sigh* just stay safe out there this weekend everyone! :-(

Condolences to the family of the man who didn't make it, and prayers to the others for a speedy recovery.

I came across this accident not long after it happened. I could not believe the number of people who had stopped to stare. It really sickens me. I did not stop, there was enough people there to assist the accident victims. But the turning lane north to Rapid City was blocked with stare bears. If it was me lying there in terrible pain, I would not want strangers standing around staring at me, with their iPhone cameras pointed at me. Just a particular pet peeve of mine. Sympathy to all involved.

Girlfriend passed away

Apparently the girlfriend died this morning. The family is well known in their community and have a motorcycle business. Many are leaving flowers at the front door to show their sympathy. Very sad and our thoughts are with them.

My father used to work for Hydro and I remember as a child being with him when he had to go to a scene of an accident for gas checks. He used to say just what you said about how unnerving it was to see the number of people that showed up or pulled over to get a look at accidents. It made his, and everyone else's jobs, that much harder as they had to wade through and deal with bystanders. People need to learn that accidents are not a public show.

tradgic

My son witnessed this accident, and last night he was very upset about it, he had been filling his vehicle with fuel just a few minutes before the accident and had talked to the man for a few moments, and then they both headed west.

We had a bit of a talk last night about how precious life is, and also how how uncertain it is, and now with the passing of the mans girlfriend I imagine he will likely do more reflecting on things.

I have a very hard time expressing condolences to people, because I know that at times words can not help with the pain.

Sadly yes,

The 25 year old female passenger of the motorcycle died in hospital according to the Brandon Sun. The 25-year-old women was from Winnipeg and the 26-year-old man was from Selkirk.

Hopefully the vans driver makes a full recovery...Cant even start to imagine what he is going through right now.
