Looking For Witnesses/How to dispute MPI decision

If anyone witnessed an accident taking place at the intersection of 18th Street and Princess Ave on June 16, 2014 at approximately 3:45 PM, please PM me. It seems as though some people have very little ethical boundaries and ZERO accountability.

On a side note, if anyone is able to share their experiences on successfully disputing MPI decisions, I would like to hear about it. It seems as though very little is needed in order to be found at fault: however, overturning that judgement is a totally different story.

Third party investigator

I know that MPI hires 3rd party crash forensic reconstruction experts to help them identify cases of insurance fraud. I had one brought in by MPI to investigate in a hit and run claim I had, the expert confirmed that my vehicle was not moving when it was hit.

I'm not sure how you would go about opening up an appeal, but they do have the process which could lead to having the same opportunity. Their adjusters aren't always right, but you'll likely have to fight tooth and nail to prove them wrong.

Small claims

MPIC decided 50/50 for an accident once at a 4 way stop.Guy ran it..hit me..and lied.I went back..measured the distance and my speed and found it was impossible for his/and his wife's story to be true..Judge ruled in my favor and the liar got 100% responsibility..But I think it depends on the situation..It cost me $25 to take it Small Claims...and it was 10 years ago

Depends

I had a friend that got hit while turning left into her parents' driveway - it was a regular residential 2-way street. The person who hit her passed her on the left and T-boned her on the driver's side going over the speed limit, even though my friend is very meticulous and *always* signals etc (I would be surprised if it turned out she didn't). But MPI found my friend 100% at fault because she was turning left, despite the fact that the other driver made statements to the police who attended that she was distracted because her mom was in the hospital or something (I don't recall exactly what). It was further complicated that the other driver was an out-of-province driver.

My friend fought it and got it reduced to 50/50 after probably a year of arguing back and forth, and finally settled for that. I don't think it financially benefited her but at that point it was the principal of the matter, LOL.

What vehicles were involved?

I remember driving off of Princess onto 18th street and having to drive into the far lane closest to BU a couple of times. I am just wondering what accident this was that you are talking about. I seen one with a car and a truck in the turning lane of 18th street and one that was kind of in the intersection. Just wondering which one it was as I may be able to help depending on which one it was.

Looking For Witnesses/How to dispute MPI decision

You can take it to arbitration ,I did and the eventual ruling over-rode the initial ruling which turned out to be fair in my opinion. The Procedure took about 2 months

we

We're involved in an accident which was absolutely not our fault and the other driver apologized when he backed into our little car with his big truck. Although he changed his story when it came time to tell the police and mpi. I can't remember if we were found 100 or 50 percent at fault. Either way we knew the other guy was lying but he was a well known business owner and we figured we didn't have a chance at winning against him. We had to write mpi a letter of appeal if we wanted to dispute. We wrote the letter and the passenger in each vehicle had to meet with mpi. I showed up for my meeting but the other passenger was a no show. Mpi then found the other driver 100% at fault. As bleak as it may seem don't give up. Good luck.

Mpic and drivers licensing

Mpic is great until the day your in an accident.,they boast of cheap car insurance, but once you make a claim, you drivers license suffers the penalty.i wish we had the option for other competitive insurance, even if it was with higher premiums.(just so that there is an alternative option) Drivers licensing and insurance should not controlled by the same company..my opinion and I may be wrong.

.

It's really sad when one has to resort to using their phone as an audio/video recorder at their side or in their pocket following an accident to prove their innocence....Because this is actually what I'm going to resort to now if I get into an accident in the future.

......or I could just buy a dashcam for $200.

Hmmm...

My son's brand new truck got hit by lightning yesterday during that storm. The only cosmetic damage appears to be a black mark where the antenna used to be. However, all the electronics were fried - engine, tranny, steering, 4WD, etc.

I'm really hoping MPI doesn't decide to try to repair it. If they do, what happens to his new car warranty? How about any electrical glitches that develop in the future? Is he able to go back to MPI to get them fixed?

I absolutely agree. Had I been thinking, I would have used my cellphone to record the conversation immediately following the accident. Its unfortuate that one can't be counted on to do the right thing and own up to their faults. I'm counting on karma for this one. It might cost me more right now, but will certainly come back to bite her in the @ss someday. And in the meantime, I can sleep at night knowing that I haven't put my integrity on the line over a simple car accident.

Thanks to those who responded. The accident didn't invlove a truck though.

Well

As for lightning striking a new car, as long as you pay for the replacement cost insurance they will most likely write it off and give you every penny you paid for it back.

And the icing on the cake...

Apparently if you wish to appeal an MPI decision, you are not entitled to be privy to copies of the documents used to determine fault, such as pictures or statements provided to MPI. Seems difficult to appeal when you don't know why they made the choice they did...

Ugh.

Ugh. "

You can request a copy of your complete file. I did that numerous times after my accident.
