Establishing an ATV club in Westman

Hello all,

I have been trying to see if the Westman ATV association is still active. Anyone know anything about this club?

I have been in talks with ATV Manitoba about setting up an official club here in the Westman region. If Westman ATV Association is still active, I would like to get into contact with them.

An official club recognized by ATV Manitoba would allow increased opportunities for opening new designated trail systems in our area.

I have been doing some mapping and scouting in the Camp Hughes area for example, and have been in talks with Manitoba Conservation and CFB Shilo about gaining proper permission to use this area.

I have mapped out a potential designated trail, and have discussed with CFB Shilo and MB Conservation about having an ATV derby on this trail as a trial run.

My question is if anyone would be interested in joining an ATV club in our area.

I have the starter kit from ATV MB, I just need to see if there is any interest before I go any further.

Thanks,

Chad

Great idea

It would be great to have a recognized ATV club in the area and to have some trails. We have a great trail system for snowmobiling and it would be nice to have something similar for ATV. We have ridden in the Richer area on their trails and something like that in this area would be awesome.

Atv club

I would join and support an atv club owned a few different quads trikes and snowmobiles in my day. I get about 5-10 rides a summer. Message me if you need members.

Westman ATV club

I was a member of the Westman ATV club. I understand it has folded. If you are wanting members to join a new club, I would be interested in buying a membership. Keep us posted on your progress.

Former member

As a former member of watva and the folded local snowmobile club I wish you luck. Getting and keeping members is hard. People loose interest quickly if you can’t keep them entertained.

Everyone wants a membership with only a couple people doing all the work involved.
Much the same for most clubs these days.

Wish u luck

Derbys

I would definately be interested in a club or association. A small crew of us are always looking to get out somewhere. Besides beulah and spurs all the derbys are in Eastman or the interlake.

Derbys

Are a all but done because no land owner wants a bunch of drunk idiots on their land ripping it up. Insurance and the liability of it all is what has stopped so many of the derby’s around here. Atvs have gotten a terrible rap because of the destruction that some fools do with them. I’m not a hater of them, I have two and get out all the time with them. We have a group of about half a dozen who go out and trail ride Shilo, camp H and other areas, but with respect, no booze and little to no mudding.

Sounds like

It’s starting to sound like we have eanough people in this chat. Especially with some of the old club members help. I have a couple friends who would join as well after talking to them. They wouldn’t be able to commit to board meetings but would join the club and come to trail rides.

Nice to see the support

Hello all,

Its nice to see that there is still an interest, from both old members of the Westman ATV Association and potential new members.

I am going to contact a few people who used to be in clubs to get their insight and advice on starting a club.

I am also going to review in further detail the startup package that ATV Manitoba sent me.

My next question to you is this:

Would it be beneficial to use the Westman ATV Association name as it may have some recognition with the public? Or would it be better to start up a fresh new club?

I am looking forward to getting this club up and running, promoting our sport, and showing the public that when done responsibly, it can be a fun, exciting way of exploring our surrounding areas for the whole family.

I look forward to furthercomments/suggestions and will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you,

Chad

Westman ATV

Hey Chad (OP), I'm the past (or technically still current) President of Westman ATV. I thought I'd better address this publicly now that the bag is open:

The club is effectively on hold, with no real official activities or membership quorum. We were going to officially "fold" it a few years back, but never initiated the paperwork to dissolve it completely (meaning the Executive Committee and Financial Non-Profit Status.) It was hoped that someday it could be started up again, with a fresh perspective and renewed energy. You can certainly start up something fresh, but it's a LOT of work: that is volunteer work that usually goes unappreciated. You would be much further ahead to pick up where we have left off. Much of our membership has moved on but there are still quite a few of us riding in smaller, quiet groups.

I find it odd that ATVMB would not give you this heads up as we were in their membership back then as well....

Nonetheless, this is the spark that (speaking personally) have been waiting for, lets set something up!

Initial Meeting

Cageman and all,

Sounds like keeping the Westman ATV Association name would be beneficial and would save some time and effort. I am not opposed to starting fresh as I am very motivated, but it seems to make sense to keep the current club if there is a common consensus to do so.

I am thinking now that it would be good to schedule a meeting for all interested members. A casual meeting to take down some names and email addresses so we can get a club base established and get some ideas on how to further spread the word.

I was thinking possibly this Saturday at Tim Hortons on the Number 1? I am a bit concerned about seating room (being the constant optimistic) but may be a good location for a first unofficial club meeting.

Any input is greatly appreciated, and I am flexible on dates and times as well.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Chad

Tims is busy

Tims is always real busy. The added noise could become a distraction or seating could be an issue.

Let’s pick some where not so busy. But I’m definitely on board.

Meeting Place

Good point Orion's Belt.

Ok how about the back room at Forbidden Flavors on 18th street? There are couches, chairs, and a table there. It shouldnt be too busy back there and fairly quiet.

Initial Meeting

Hello all,

Due to Hunting Season, it has been suggested that the meeting occur during a weekday.

I am going to therefore suggest that the meeting occur:

Date: Wednesday, November 21 2018

Time: 7:00 p.m

Location: Forbidden Flavors at 1060 18th St, Brandon. Meeting will be held in the back room as there is more space.

Hopefully this will work for everyone. It gives us time to recruit some more people who may be interested.

Again, this will be a casual un-official club meeting to get some names and an idea of where our initial membership numbers will be at.

Also, any comments or suggestions are always appreciated.

Chad

MEETING

Good to see the interest. My suggestion would be to meet as a group, without the involvement of Westman ATV Club. We can't have meetings under that name without following the proper protocols and elective procedure. You would all meet and discuss the options of forming a new club VS joining Westman ATV. If the majority or a good group is decided that joining Westman ATV is desirable, then we would schedule an Annual General Meeting and vote in a replacement executive. Assets can be transferred after that. I could attend this unofficial meeting if you like and provide information if necessary. Cheers!
