Brandon is finally getting it

Nice to see we are getting with the times and doing things other cities have been doing for a long time. I thank those who are responsible in advance. The upcoming Rotary Club Ribfest next weekend at the Discovery Center will be a blast for everyone who attends. Also the Food Truck War at the Vic Inn parking lot coming in September is also a great event. I have attended these events in Ontario and they were a great time and also very successful for the host cities.
Cheers to Brandon.

Where

can I find out more about these events? I have heard about the Food Truck Wars but have no idea what it entails and have not heard about the Rib Fest. Ribs are one of my favorite foods!!!

Yorkton

Yorkton just had an event like this called Rythym and Ribs with some of the same vendors. It was very well attended, but advertised much better.

Mmmm Ribs

So how does the rib fest work ?
Do you pay one price to eat from the 3 vendors or each individually ?
Sounds yummy either way

Trust me if you like BBQ just go and enjoy. You won't taste anything like it . The Americans are the ultimate pitmasters of smoked meat. If your looking for cheap meat go to McDonald's.

I'm sure

it's very good but I too would like to know how it works. Do you pay an admission fee and get so many ribs per place? Do you pay per location? With a family of 6 this can make a big difference in the cost.

food truck wars

We were chatting with some food truck vendors a few weeks ago in Winnipeg. They were invited to the food truck wars but are hesitant to come because of it being Brandon and not making good sales. Also being the first time time is no idea to gauge the turnout. We told them that it is being advertised well so far and hopefully be a good turnout and to give it a try. Unfortunately Brandon can be a tough city. That is why we take our stuff and head east to sell

Just Ribs?

Ribfest sounds like it could mushroom into a major entertainment event. Will there be any live music to go with the food? BBQ and smokin' Blues & Southern Rock are just a natural pairing. In the states, cook offs like this have played host to major acts like Molly Hatchet, Blackberry Smoke etc. I'd love to see beef brisket added to the entree in the future as well.

the food trucks want to maximize their sales and would sell more product in a city of 7 hundred thousand.

First Annual Brandon Ribfest

Hello all,
The First Annual Brandon Ribfest is being brought to you by the Rotary Club of Brandon Sunset. August 19-20th at the Riverbank Discovery Centre
Admission to the Festival is free, the food does cost money.
In addition to delicious ribs, bbq chicken and beef brisket all cooked up by award winning pit masters you will also find
- kids area complete with LARGE bouncy castle, big jenga and hockey board (thanks to Brandon Bouncy Castles)
- Farmery beer tent
- LIVE music
- The Batchery
- Coffee, pop and water will be available for purchase for the non-alcohol drinkers and minors.
- other entertainment that I am sure I am forgetting

Year one we are trying to keep it simple, but entertaining. We hope Brandonites and people from the surrounding area will come out and support and we can keep making the event bigger and better every year!

one more time.....

Any idea roughly how your charged? It's been clearly noted that there is no cover charge. Wonderful. But seems to be some dodging of the cost to eat. Which makes me wonder if it's very expensive and they are scared to chase people away with high prices.
I do not mind paying good money for amazing food but would like to know how much I should budget for.
I've checked Facebook and the website and it's says nothing about price to eat.

cost

I think they are not dodging the question, but more in a place where they can't say. Each individual vendor is selling their product so they are setting the price... not the rotary club. If people are that concerned about price I would suggest eating at home, then coming for the music and bouncy castles, then enjoying some Batchery ice cream. That would keep the cost down and allow the family to take in all the fun.

Day price

I would think it will not be give away prices. The list of ingrediants sound as each trailer will be amazing in their specialty.

Prices nay depend on crowd sizes! I do not think the 15 or so trucks coming are thinking "price" war mabyquality ingredients put together cooked/bb'q fried or whatever for our once a year delight. They need to recover costs and make enough for the next events supplies in this short summer of ours. The free sampler people have a weekend off..

Menu

Here is a link to one of the ribber's website and menu.
We are assuming that all three trucks will have comparable prices to one another.
For the quality of food you will be getting, these prices are extremely reasonable in my opinion!

Ribfest Prices

Here is a link to the website of Crabby's BBQ Shack. One of this weekend's ribbers, their menu shows prices.

https://www.crabbysbbqshack.com

If you search Winnipeg Ribfest on YouTube that will give you an idea what to expect.

Three Ribbers are coming this year but I'm sure more will come next year when they see how supportive Westman is.

good thing is...

no admission fee. If you feel like the cost is too much you're not obligated to buy. But the delish smell might just open your pocketbook
