hi

Hopefully it gets resolved so they dont loose too much $ since only been open for awhile. Guess goes to show that technology isnt as secure as we are told it is, and have heard tap n pay isnt secure as we think either. I've never used it and probably wont, for diff reasons, Not being paranoid just cautious. While I do use debit for things, I still like my cash regardless of how we're slowing going cashless down the road.

Won't use online banking or pay bills online. Also will not do my taxes online. I prefer to use cash and that is the main reason that I don't use "self check outs". Sometimes I will use debit/credit cards in a store, but I try to keep it to a minimum. I personally think that our society is making a huge mistake by going completely paperless and cashless. One more thing, I will only buy a car that I can drive, I will never buy a car that drives me. IMO, by going paperless/cashless, we are making ourselves into an irresistible target for hackers.

I noticed places want to send your receipts from purchases to your email...uhhh no in my hand is good. Also with paperless, if we cant have copies then how do we prove we had such n such amount of $ in our accounts to back it up? And why are our statements opened in a diff window with online banking? Can someone else see that since its not on the bank webpage? Id sooner get that statement sent to me on paper. Techy stuff has its place, but too easy for down the road to control peoples accounts/$ and espc when it goes cashless. Laugh all you want at me, but its makes me think of Reveleations where you cant buy or sell anyting without the mark, whatever that will be. Please dont bash me for religious reasons, Believing in something other than the current 'normal' doesnt make my beliefs wrong....just trying to make a point. Again techy stuff has its place but at least with cash no one knows of every little purchase and where I went that day and how much I spent lol My own mother doent even know that lol Paperless/cashless means easier to control...like our slowly giving up our privacy that at one time was our right. Now if you are private you are viewed as guilty or hiding something....messed up thinking lol If you close your curtains at nightand lock your doors you want to private, so same thing. Again, hoping the restraunts can get to the root of the malaware and stop it.

Swiss Chalet Harvey’s

They’ve been open, I picked up supper from the Harvey’s side last night. Because of the glitch they had to take down orders with pen and paper and do the math by calculator. They were able to do that quicker than I’d expect but I gather have had a couple days practice already.  I was still able to pay by credit card as per usual.

There was a sign on the door yesterday that they would be closing a little earlier than normal at 9:30pm. They will be back open at the usual time today.

Out of fairness I really think it’s important to try not to make assumptions. A lot of restaurants are effected by this and I‘ve been told they’re waiting on IT to come and correct the issue. I will update when I learn more, but to repeat Swiss Chalet Harvey’s is open today.

Ransomware

Correctly termed, it is not Malware, it is Ransomware. They are locked out of their computers, and have been messaged to get it unlocked, and be told how to prevent this in the future they have to pay a ransom in bitcoin. Which goes up daily by 0.5 bitcoin (around $4000).

Here's the CBC story reporting on the nature of what the restaurants might be going through. They present two divergent viewpoints....
citing information from employees that a random message popped up at several locations demanding ransom in bitcoin. Head office denies that they are being held ransom, stating they maintain "appropriate system and data security measures" including regular system backups. A spokesperson stated there's no indication of a data breach:
