Fair

Just to expand, the fair runs Monday through Saturday
Admission runs from $6 for children to $16 for adults but they have a thing on their site where you can get a free children's ticket. The full pricing breakdown including various promotions is at:
http://www.brandonfairs.com/index.php?pageid=502
Would like to see what folks have to say on the various events, what they look forward to, etc... But for a basic rundown their main site at the link Dr Who posted above is a good start!

We usually go once. We take the grand-daughter and make a whole day of it. We check out the kids barn, the petting zoo, the vendors and the superdogs. It usually takes most of the day Im super excited, the first year was fun, the second year was better, this year she is talking and more interested in new things, so this year should be even better!

We

always agree that the superdog music is unnecessarily WAY too loud and have even put in complaints that don't ever get anywhere. They have always made our young children cry and we can't stay.

We aren't into the jumping either, but usually take in the trade show, the heavies, the through the farm gate for the kids, and some of the unique things, like the acrobats they are having this year.

There isn't much that changes from year to year. It is pretty standard. We go every few years for something to do and then when we do go, we are reminded why we don't go every year.

in 10 and she actually mentioned the same thing. She mentioned how it seems like exactly the same thing every year (and we don't go every year - she has only been three times). When a ten year old mentions the repetitiveness there may be a problem....especially when even with free tickets for the kids it costs almost $40 just to get Mom and Dad in the gates!!

I don't know what else they could add or do to change it up though.

.

If you have never gone before and have young kids, and especially if you don't have farm animals, take in through the farm gate.

You might also want to take a careful stroll into the horse barn area to see some heavies getting ready for their big show. They are so huge and make an impression. Just be respectful of them and stay out of the way while they are being lead, dressed and undressed. We always enjoyed watching them go around in the arena as well. It is a dying art...driving horses, and it is rare to see a multiple horse hitch anywhere anymore.

too much money

I was wanting to go to but it will cost $50.00 for our family to go and that seems a little much. Also have to include gas to get there and meals while in the city so it would end up being a $200.00 day. You could print off free children's tickets until March 25 but I just found that out today so little help that was when it is already past the deadline.....

good deal

We got a great deal getting in yesterday.

My husband stopped by and took in the breakfast in the a.m., paid his $3. They stamped his hand and told him it was good for reentry all day.

We showed up with our 3 kids under 6 (all free) after 5 p.m., so my admission was $10.

We got the kids to eat before leaving, and took some food with us in the backpack (I've never noticed a sign that says we can't). We also spent an additional $10 on various fair food for everyone to sample/share.

We spent most of our time at Thru the Farm Gate, and saw some heavy horses and stuff. We took in a children's entertainer (very good). My kids got free stickers, egg hats and "magic beans". My daughter is begging to go plant her beans right now (as we watch the huge snowflakes fall down).

We came home happy and exhausted at around 9:30. My only regret is that we missed the Superdogs.

Total for the evening: $23 for a family of 5.

my view is.....

Winter Fair Reviews

Just wondering if I should be taking
the kids to the winter fair this year.
The kids found last year's fair boring.
Wondering if the entertainment acts this year are better and if the trade show is better this year compared to last year.

Give me a compelling reason to bring my family to the fair. I want everyone to give an honest assessment.

just some one

awesome

I think the value of the fair for the price is awesome. The caliber of the horse show is very good for those that enjoy it. There aren't many places you can get a day of entertainment for the price of the fair admission. I spend more for a afternoon at playime or ruckers.

I am volunteering everyday at the fair, and my kids are also. I do every year. So that is also an option for next year if you want, you put in a few hours and get into the fair for free, plus its very fun!!

There is lots to see and do, and learn! Well worth spending a whole day, or six!

Hats for kids

Does anyone know where I could get a cowboy hat for a 4 year old little girl. I'm sure I would be able to find them at the fair....but I was hoping to get one before we head to the fair.

Hats for kids

You can always buy them at the fair at a couple of places and on sale. I remember that Cowtown had them on sale (I think 25% off?) at their booth. You can pretty much buy anything western at the fair.

I was disappointed that there was only one 8 horse hitch this year, but then again happy that it still was a part of the fair. I understand why the farmers don't keep up with it anymore, but just the same, it is so sad that this is disappearing.

My kids enjoyed taking part in the kids rodeo events on Tuesday. That was a nice touch I thought, although very out of the way. I wonder how well it was attended because of that?

Royal Manitoba Winter Fair

My god-daughter and I went this year, for the first time, and we both thought it was awesome. Lol. Maybe it's because the most exciting thing that we had growing up was a small trade fair, and the Winter Fair blows it out of the water.

We watched the ATCO cup (horse jumping) in the evening, and it was great! Thru the Farm Gates was really interesting too.
