Target announces stores opening in 2013

And Brandon is on the list, set to open the spring of 2013. I am unable to link to the article because I am on my phone but I found it at the Financial Post online. There's also two opening around the same time at both Southdale Centre and Kildonan Place in Winnipeg. A third is set for Grant Park in the winter of 2013/2014.

I thought that was the plan from the beginning? I heard Spring 2013 was the target date (no pun intended) pretty much as soon as word got out that Target was coming to Brandon

In September of 2011 Target gave a list of stores they were planning to open in 2013. Not all the stores in that list were in today's announced list. Brandon, Southdale, Kildonan Place and Grant Park remained on the list but stores in Polo Park and Yorkton have been put on hold. As well, Regina is now to receive a Target, whereas in the September announcement Regina was not included.

Yorkton's Zellers is being converted to a new-prototype Canadian Tire. Yorkton will NOT be getting a Target.

Many stores, especially in Edmonton, were on the initial Target list in September, but have since been "resold" to Walmart (these sites were at one time former Walmart or Kmart stores that were bought by HBC in the 90's).

It seems Target is targeting cities with either a 50,000+ population or 100,000+ trading area, as Moose Jaw and Prince Albert (the latter has the 2nd highest retail sales per capita in Canada) are NOT getting Target stores either.

Polo Park was originally on the list but is not now. Northgate (the busiest Zellers in Winnipeg) was never on the list. Fort Richmond Zellers was to shut down regardless of whether Target took over or not, as Shindico is converting it to a box mall, and Downtown Zellers will likely be converted back to a Bay bargain basement.

Polo Park is not on that list to be converted because once the stadium gets demolished, Target will be building a stand alone store in that spot.

Exactly! Target is getting a stand alone store, which is not on the list now as its not part of the Zellers deal. I can see this Zellers store eventually becoming a Kohl's (Right demographics)

Target

This is going back to December so if anyone has better info please share, but at the time according to the mall the plan was that Zellers would close in the fall and re-open as Target in the spring. I'm not sure if a harder date is available yet.....
