Corner of Victoria & 19th

I was wondering what is going on there where there used to be a gas station. A simple fence has gone up in the last few days.

Wondering the samething.

Looks like the little fence they put up around the lot is just for decoration or looks or something. I thought maybe it was to keep people off the lot, but its only 3 feet high and can be easily be jumped over. But it doesn't look like they are going to build anything there.

19th & Victoria or 20th & Victoria

Is the site of a former gas station, and as such may not be too easy to redevelop.
-I think there's extra rules & concerns.
-remember 18th & Rosser, where M & M meats is located -was on hold for redevelopment for awhile (also a former gas station.)

this site still has the the gas tanks in the ground and will not be developed for years. It is cheaper to leave the land as is than to develop it and remove all contaminants from the ground.

Another example is the site downtown on Rosser Avenue, about 4th and Rosser I think (?), this has sat vacant for YEARS. Both sites are owned by Esso Canada.

..

Somebody has got to care about the details.

Anybody know if the City's by-law on gas stations was retroactive? Or if the talk even turned into a by-law?

The tanks that were at 18th and Rosser and 19-2oth and Vic are gone.

Tanks are obviously still there at 4th and Rosser, and that site is not owned by an oil company.

that may be correct, but the ground may be contaminated so it won't be developed any time soon.

=

With regard to the fence, they did that also at the old abandoned site in Portage recently.

The tanks have been removed from Vic and 20th, I watched them being pulled out.

The 18th and Rosser site was ok to develope as long as they just put down a slab. No disturbing the sub soil.

20th and Vic is still not for sale, however, I do beleive that they did the testing and remediation when the tanks where removed (or at least the first phase)

funny, because the environmental standards are actually more stringent for a slab on grade building than one with a basement...
