Brandon-Souris By-Election.

So anybody have guesses on when this gets called? Received a letter in the mail the other day about the Whip being available for any concerns. How long does the PM wait?

Just Long Enough

He will wait just long enough until his advisors think people have forgotten about the nomination fiasco. And it won't be very long before that is last week's news. People have short memories, the righteous indignation by the disgruntled tories will pass and this seat will remain blue.
Hope I am wrong.

...

Wonder if it will die down?

People seem genuinely upset, and rightfully so.

My take

Well no rush for one but it would probably be a few weeks after the throne speech.

All the parties are focused on that. The media also. If he had called it sooner the media would say he is trying to bury the by elections issues. The media is focused on the House.

My bet at the latest a early spring one- but probably called weeks after the throne speech this week if not during the throne speech( doubtful).

Is it not 4 by elections needed?? Not sure. In Brandon it will be a two horse race in my mind. The Libs have a good chance. The only danger for the Libs is a vote split on the left and that is a real possibility. Vote reform- I hate proportional rep but the French system would work here in our riding. If no one wins 50 plus then the top two go again. In that case I believe a Liberal would win.

Just my take. This will be a good interesting by-election in Brandon

According to Shelley Glover all that has been said is a "load of crap".

Those Tories that are pissed about this will not forget!

Had a call the other day from the PC machine asking if they could count on our support for Larry Maguire. Testing the waters perhaps.

If you lean the dipper side @ 1.95 per vote before it was cut back each party got TAXPAYER money to do what they want. Surveys included!

I do know and agree with what you are thinking. Is this a party survey or Gov. Either way there needs to be a line at the end. This survey was paid for by x person/party.m In fact it should be up front before the survey starts. Not the survey company companies name but who paid the bill!!

By-election date

Federal By-elections must be called within 6 months of a seat becoming vacant. There are currently 4 vacant seats in Canada, 1 in Montreal, 1 in Toronto & 2 in MB. The earliest vacancy was Montreal & to be in compliance, that By-election must be called not later than Nov. 30/13. It is assumed that the PM. will want to hold all By-elections for the same day. If that holds true then they must be called before the end of November. Leaving it that late would mean campaigning through December which would not be well received. Watch for Harper to make the call within the next 2 week, probably right after the Conservative convention in Calgary at the end of October.
It is also certain that both Conservatives & Liberals are polling extensively in Brandon Souris. That, plus the frequent visits from Trudeau, suggests things are much closer than usual. Hang on to your hats, it's going to get interesting.
