MTS Internet (slow lately?)

To everyone on ebrandon that has MTS internet high speed plans. Has anyone been having speed issues the last month or so? If so please REPORT to MTS. Here is what I have been seeing.

Since the middle part of Feb I have been noticing a HUGE drop in speeds at random times for random periods. Now before people start posting "maybe its your computer/network/modem" please read entire post before commenting.

Every since time I experience this issue, I check with 6 other MTS customers in Brandon and they confirm their internet is currently as slow or slower than mine. Every time I have these issues I go to www.speedtest.net and run a test to Server Central in Chicago. My pings will vary from 50-70 and I have had as SLOW as 0.48Mbps and my normal speeds are averaged 25Mbps.

MTS keeps telling me it is my computer that is doing it, I then tell them it is not doing anything at all, then they say VIRUS, I tell them NOPE sorry clean. They are now wanting to replace my modem and I have even explained to them about 10 times that I am CURRENTLY not the only person having this issue.

Please call in to MTS @ 204-225-5687 and report this to them, DO NOT let them tell you it is something within your home. I know it is a pain to call in and report it but if you don't then you will not get it resolved.

Thank you

:(

It seems to "stall" quite often on me and I have run malware and virus scans - nothing!!! It is every computer/phone in my house.

Lightning speed is "turtle" speed at times. Very random.

They replaced the modem once already.

My experience with the previous provider left me not wanting to return ever.

Same problem here...

Not only that but I have to restart my laptop at least 3 to 4 times a day because it keeps dropping it's connection. There are days when it takes up to 5 minutes or more to load a page on the internet.

Very frustrating.

We've

Also experienced the same problem. Intermittent speed as low as 1MBsec where it should stand at about 20-25. Frustrating experience where I explain that all my connections are wireless and I've experienced slow speeds on all of them at various times and no we do not download movies on all 4 at the same time. On top of this, I am very tech savvy and had to take over the conversation at some point as the tech on the other end Was going around in circles and blaming anything from all peripherals "on" at the same time can cause this issue as they could be doing background work that I'm not aware of. Really, computers would have to be doing some serious background wotk to slow my connection down to 1 MBsec. Finally I told him to switch my channel, whatever it's on because I can't do it. So he checks it and replies, oh,you're on channel 11, that's a default channel and maybe is causing the problem as there could be interference from another modem using the same frequency. He changed it last Thursday to channel 6 or 7. Anyway, works great since, always 20-25 MBsec.

Me too

Mine has been slow and loosing connection frequently.

It seems to have gotten slower when my MTS e-mail was switched over.

I have been thinking it was my computer. Sorry to say, I am pleased I am not the only one.

Thank-you for the information.

is on a wired connection so changing the channel will not help me. Thanks to everyone posting on here with their issues, I have sent MTS this forum post so they can see the scope of the issues.

Though this does sound like an MTS problem, others may want to consider checking their routers channel settings just in case. The google play store has an app called wifi analyler, which detects what channel nearby networks are using. My area has has channel 1 saturated.

Cant hurt to check. Maybe new networks are poping up around you and saturating you channel (or or an overlapping channel)

MTS

For the last 2 years We have a wireless surveillance system without issues
Then in January I received emails alerts when the System in offline (due to weak wi-fi signal or power outage)
I would receive an email every 2 hours.
Did call MTS, they were very, very helpful, they rebooted, adjusted the signal strength etc
(All remotely)

System is much better, however, I do receive 1 or 2 email alerts/ day (Feb & March)
that surveillance is offline due to Internet poor connection

So yes I agree the Internet performance is not what it was last year.

Might have to call MTS again.

Mine has been solid as always
A lot of the problems mentioned in this thread do not seem to be MTS related, such as the person who had to keep restarting their laptop to improve their connection.

We just left another provider in the last month and went over to mts. After years of such pathetic atrocious service, I'm not sure I could even tell if the MTS was slow. My tabs no longer constantly time out, and my email is not full of spam and virus. I can even watch a videos.
If you are unhappy with MTS, give I-*** **** a try, and you will never complain of MTS service.

similar problem

Not as much lately, but last year, I was after MTS for the same thing. The router is right beside my laptop. Part of the problem was there's over 15 people on MTS for wireless in my area. Switching channels wasn't very helpful as it seems like others were switching to the same channel which MTS switched for me. I suspect some of the people who are on the same (or switch to the same) channel as me are using netflex and are gaming which may be causing problems too.

Eventually I ended up getting a new router. While it solved 90% of the problems, there's random times which my speed simply drops down next to nothing being wired and wireless. I noticed even the picture quality with MTSTV sucked at times within the past month.

The

Issues I am most concerned about relate to MTS High speed internet, not wireless internet (cell). Yes some people have mentioned things that do point to their PC or conflicting Wi-Fi channels, but what I am talking about is the fact that MTS internet literally comes to a halt for me and 6 other friends who all have MTS High speed service in our homes. It happens to all of us at the same time and we live in various locations in Brandon, so it is not local to my area. Anyone that continues to comment "maybe its your computer" need not comment at all since they are just here to troll.

It has been established that this speed right here http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5184869985 is MTS's issue alone. This is far from this http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5187603030 my normal speed that I have received for the last 2 years on my current plan.

Fishing Guy, I am currently getting that speed too. But there are many random times the speed will drop off to almost nothing. Keep an eye on it.

MTS speed

I'm running MTS lan in my house, hard wired on ethernet cable and am also experiencing the drops. I rebooted the mts router last night expecting better but just did the speed test this AM and got 11 down / 1.95 up.
Last night around 6 I couldn't even load a youtube vid.

I had heard this was the case around 6pm last night. It seems to be problematic around this time most days. I also usually have issues around 10pm - 12pm as well. For the most part is seems random. MTS has no clue what is going on.

I wonder if a line or other hardware between winnipeg and brandon got cut and they don't want to admit the issue. If it is that then they just need to man up and do it, covering up dumb things like this does nothing but hurt reputations.

They had a problem with the link between Winnipeg and Brandon earlier this month. Maybe it's not fully back to normal yet.

you mean the speed slows down? I have not completely lost connection to the internet, it just becomes so slow I might as well be on dial-up in some cases.

They have a new higher speed for +$20

So I just think it is them slowing it down so we will all pay the extra to maintain the speeds we USED to get with the plan we all presently have.

Hate to sound like the "conspiracy guy" but companies have pulled this kinda stuff before. They will always have 10,000 excuses why it is slow and it won't be their fault.

just sayin

some companies have pulled that stunt before, BUT to go from a normal connection of 25Mbps to 0.48 for an hour or so just doesn't fit into "Traffic Management" model used by many other companies. This is plain and simple an MTS network failure that needs to be found. At 0.48Mbps you cannot do too much. MTS is aware of this thread any help from Brandon MTS customers as to when they start having current issues is helpful. Also report it to MTS.

Don't be silly. Do you really think their marketing department decided it would be a good strategy to give people crappy service and hope that they decide to upgrade? Like I said, mine has had no issues, selecting random people to purposely degrade their service makes no sense.

I don't know what this new plan is that you are talking about. They have offered 10, 25, 50, 100, and 250 for quite some time, none of those are new.

This may be answered already, but are all/many of those affected in a certain area of the city?

Here too...

It was absolutely slow around 6:00 PM last night; I find slow service typically between 4:30-6:30 which I am assuming is due to higher traffic.
