Garden Seeds

Is there any place in Brandon that is more cost effective (cheaper ) for purchasing vegetable seeds for a garden?
What's your experiences with cheaper seeds? Do they result in a poor quality plant?
Thank you in advance.

Depending on how big your garden is you might want to find someone else planting a garden and share seeds with them. I find there is a lot of seeds in each package. This might be a way of cost savings.

Lindenbergs

Lindenbergs is pretty cheap compared to the box stores. The packets of seeds you get at dollar stores usually have less seeds in them so if you are just planting a small garden no problem but if you have a big garden I would go to Lindenbergs.

both those ^^^

Seed sharing and those dollar store seeds are usually the most effective for a small garden. I bought some of those dollar store seeds that were 33 cents a package this year, and they actually grew better than some of the more expensive seeds I bought (for plants started indoors). Yes, there's less per package, you might only get 25 seeds instead of 50, but even then it's usually cheaper than anywhere else.

Also, once you get a garden started you can save a lot of seeds. Some hybrids you can't, but I've planted 4 variety of beans, snap peas, and tomatoes from seeds I saved this year. You can also save some seeds from year to year by keeping them in your fridge - I've done that with lots of different types. You might get a slightly lower germination rate in subsequent years (maybe 85% vs. 95%), but it's generally fine. The exception is lettuce/greens, they don't keep well past a year.

Happy gardening!
