MTS blocking Rogers on North Hill?

Ever since the new tower on the corner of 18th and Braecrest went up, our phones (we are on Rogers) have been having bad reception issues. Anyone else having issues.

This is the only time I have ever had issues with Rogers and now it's ongoing. Frustrating.

Tower

I got some news for you people, The BellMTS tower on 18th and Braecrest isn''t even live yet. So you can''t blame BellMTS for that, even when it does go live it will only improve everything. Rogers and MTS Still share towers.

Is the Bell MTS tower blocking Rogers? Nope. It's not. In fact, with the tower sharing agreement in place until around 2030, it will actually lead to better cell service for Rogers customers. I've used my phone in North Hill for years and service has gotten worse over time because of one thing.. congestion. The tower downtown is just too far away for good, reliable AND fast service in Corral Centre and north of that.

Ever since LTE first came to Brandon a few years back, 3G was still more reliable in some places. Right at the intersection of 1st Street N and Trans Canada, I ALWAYS have LTE switch to 3G or else anything I'm doing (streaming) will just cease until down the hill

Service has just recently tanked for me and not sure why but it's frustrating.

North hill has been spotty to brutal for a long time. Here's hoping the new tower puts the issue to bed

Mts service

I can say that as an MTS customer - my service on the hill has sucked since they finished building the monster on 18th. Service is spotty at best. Hope you guys are right and service will improve once it gets activated or else it's gonna be a long contract.

Rogers issue

Recently, Rogers has had a 4G issue in Brandon, where some customers were unable to receive and/or make calls. Switching off 4G solved this problem. But the North Hill has always seemed to be bad reception on Rogers - especially in WalMart - the Cell phone black hole.

It looks like the Bell MTS tower on Braecrest is live now, I''m at Peavy Mart and getting really good speeds, which is a first.

MTS

Previous to now I have had few issues with MTS. But fairly recently, I have started having dropped calls all over the place. Downtown (using that tower). South central, presumably using the other tower (by the tracks). All over.
I have the call end, and the other person has an automated "Your call did not go through" message play out of nowhere.
I also notice that Superstore seems to now be almost entirely a dead zone. I remember it being a bit spotty before (usually would drop to 4G, which was almost always stronger than LTE). Not anymore, however.

When making a call today (and another yesterday to, come to think of it) I also noticed major fluctuations in the 4G signal strength. I am used to LTE almost alway being moderate to weak. But 4G everywhere is usually 5 or 4, minimum 3. Yet now it seems to fluctuate majorly. 5,3,1,5,4,2 . . . you get the picture.

I am no tech, but I would guess:

1.) My handset

2.)the transmission power was turned down on the masts for some reason

3.) The changeover is causing major congestion.

Signal strength

I am on Rogers LTE and signal sucks. Stopped in at Rogers on 18th and the fellow in there told me to go to 3G and have had no problem with signal.

I

am with MTS and I cant say if there is any issues there, BUT I can say that a huge portion of Brandon from the the Keystone centre East to about Franklin St, and pretty much from Victoria Ave to the southern edge of town is total CRAP service. Calls are not bad but the LTE/4G service is so bad dialup is faster. It is so bad that speedtest wont even work. Yet I goto downtown, eastern edge of town and even north hill and service is really good. The best service I got in town was downtown and i t was 55Mbps down and 20Mbps up. In MacGregor on weekend I was getting 70Mbps down and 30Mbps up. I know it isnt my phone, I have a ticket in with MTS for this issue but knowing them they will not find an issue. I hope the new tower on the Hospital gets installed SOON.

Alrighty then

Rogers issues

I also was having issues with dropped calls and no service where I previously had good cell service. I stopped by the Rogers store and they were blaming MTS ell for doing something to the towers. They changed my phone to 3G only but that didn't help. Called Rogers tech department and they reset my phone and did something with my connection to the tower. That didn't help. While on the phone with Rogers tech the call dropped twice. Perfect timing. The tech said he would escalate the problem and have someone visit the tower within a couple of days. After 3 weeks of receiving texts saying there was a delay getting to Brandon and numerous calls, while standing at the front window of my house as it was the only place I could gat reception, I had enough and made a complete to the CRTC. WITHIN 2 days of making the complaint to the CRTC, amazingly my cell phone is back working to what it was a month ago.
Maybe if people are having continuo problems with their service, a complaint to the CRTC is in order. It took around 10 minutes online to make a complaint and for me, the results was what I required. Cell service that actually does what we pay for

Worth a try.

Oh?

Where's that quote Adam got from Rogers which we were all supposed to take as gospel even having the thread closed stating something along the lines of "There has been no change to the network, Brandon and area customers will continue to enjoy the amazing service they have come to expect."? I don't pay WCG for Broadband and accept dialup, why would I pay Rogers for LTE and accept 3G? None of these issues started until the MTS deal was final, who cares though right we don't have the population for a company like Bell or Rogers to care, we did with MTS but oh well!

Rogers

I have no idea what's up with Rogers lately but i am finding there are dead spots when i drive north on 18th between the bridges. That is a new issue. There are also several spots along Veterans Way where Ì now have dropped calls-for years there has been good service all along that road and now it sucks. At home-Cottonwoods-the service is very poor too. It was this way 10 or 12 years ago but then was good up until this past spring. LTE always comes and goes in my house but now I often have no service at all, even on 4G or 3G.

old phones vs. new phones

I wonder if the issues people have are primarily because of capacity on newer networks. For example, me & my husband have older (~4 years old?) smartphones that we got second-hand - mine is on Rogers and his is on MTS. we NEVER have issues with connectivity, dropped calls, etc. They've proven to be super-reliable.

When everyone is clamouring to have the newest and bestest phone, on the latest network, it's not unreasonable that actually building the infrastructure doesn't keep pace with the number of new phones on the network.

I think

it makes no difference what the phone is. My new phone (purchased this past spring) works better than my older one did, but not as good as the first month i had it-and a family members older phone works very badly the last couple months. The tablets-new last winter-are getting much poorer service now than they did when we got them, but they are still better than our phones.

Depends. If they were on the CDMA legacy network (only applicable to MTS, far as I know), I could see that. I hope not though, being that network is likely to go bye bye fairly soon (if it hasn't already).

. . .

One thing I would be interested in knowing is if this is only affecting Rogers/MTS users, or if there are also some issues on the Belus side. I wouldn't think so (I assume both are still running stand alone networks for the next few years). But it be worth looking into.

Could help explain the dropped calls and some other aspects.

boosters

If service on the hill has gotten worse for multiple providers since a tower going live, Everyone who operates a building cell booster(there's a whole bunch!) better check them for overload, and shut them off immidiately. that can cause whole area short-duration outages due to feedback.

If you get caught with a malfunctioning booster, they can go after you for interference "damages"

My service on the north hill sucks with BellMTS. I called and they didn't seem to care that I have no service at all 1/4 of the time. I guess it's a good thing I pay them another $64/mo for internet so that I can still use my phone. Is there not some Body we can complain to collectively about the horrible/spotty service from service providers around Brandon? At some point you'd think there would be frustration of contact. We pay for a service and expect 'service' in return - why should we have to be bound to a contract when they're not holding up their part of the agreement? Just a thought in my head - I haven't taken it any further than calling BellMTS once to complain

Total internet, for $65/mon for 1 user you get home internet and Unlim Canada wide cell data. You pay $64 now plus what ever you pay for your cell. SAVE some money.
