A number of health care facilities in Western Manitoba will be getting some upgrades over the next year or two.

The work was approved by the Province of Manitoba for health safety and security projects.

“We will get $6 million to do a number of projects in Prairie Mountain Health” said Vice President of Finance and Capital Support Services Brian Schoonbaert.

The Manitoba government has approved 95 projects across the province to ensure safety and security requirements identified by the regional health authorities.

“Our projects are part of a priority list we have compiled and the next step is to move to the tendering phase.”

Schoonbaert adds it can take time to work through the process and it could be a couple of years before some of the work is actually completed.

We have some facilities that are nearing end of life, nothing eminent, but we want to replace the Neepawa Hospital with a joint health centre and Boissevain's Westview Lodge is nearing end of life so there are some facilities that are getting more difficult to maintain.”
