Killarney scored four times in the second period including goals by Aubrey Chapman and Daniel Stagg 25 seconds apart late in the middle frame as the Shamrocks defeated the Carberry Plainsmen 7-2 in game one of the best-of-five Tiger Hills Hockey League final at the Shamrock Centre.

Chapman and Stagg finished the night with two goals each while the rest went to Jesse Bernard, Colton Magwood and Brayden Cuthbert.

The defending champions mindset heading into the series opener was keep the home ice advantage.

“We definitely wanted to take the opportunity and get a lead which we did here tonight.,” Killarney goaltender Brian Archibald told CJRB's Tyler Addison. “It's a good feeling going into their barn up 1-0 for sure.”

Keaton Turner and Brett Kitt replied for Carberry.

“I thought we played okay,” said Plainsmen coach Ryan White. “I don't think it was a 7-2 game. Some unlucky bounces and they're a good team. We got to play a little better against them.”

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period and the Shamrocks had a 5-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Game two goes Wednesday in Carberry with game three back in Killarney on Friday.
