The Agricultural Institute of Canada (AIC) hosted its 2017 conference this week in downtown Winnipeg.

There were about 100 people from across Canada in attendance, including government managers, growers, producer groups and scientists.

AIC Chair Dr. Wilf Keller explained the theme of this year's conference.

"The theme very much is agriculture in a changing environment. Obviously, recognizing climate change issues but the whole question and challenge of making our industry sustainable. Recognizing that there are climate change issues, greenhouse gas mitigation is something that we need to play a role in...We need to do more intensive work on how we can we be very good stewards of the agricultural production system."

Keller notes the conference provides a good balance of science and policy, and allows those in attendance a great chance to network and discuss the issues.

AIC, which was founded in 1920, considers itself to be "the voice for agricultural research and innovation".
