The Seattle Thunderbirds are off to the Memorial Cup.
Seattle claimed the WHL Championship with a 4-3 overtime win over the Regina Pats on Sunday night.
Game 6 in Regina was an even match up through 40 minutes with the score tied 1-1.
Goals by Josh Mahura and Austin Wagner would give the Pats a 3-1 lead with just under 7 minutes to play.
It wouldn’t be enough has Seattle got late goals by Ryan Gropp and Keegan Kolesar to force overtime.
In the extra frame Alexander True netted the championship goal at 12:36.
Carl Stankowski stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced in the Seattle net while Tyler Brown went 39-43 for the Pats.
The Memorial Cup starts Friday, May 19 in Windsor, The Thunderbirds first match is Saturday against the Erie Otters.
