Mother Nature finally came through with a million dollar rain for our agriculture folk, but this limited the Rivers Comets team to one game since our doubleheader on June 4.

On Wednesday, June 7 Comets travelled down No. 1 to take on the Oilers in Virden. Unfortunately, a slow start was the undoing for the club; Comets dropped a 9-6 decision to the Oilers and saw their record fall to 3-4 on the year. Kyle Kostesky took the loss on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up seven runs, four walks and striking out five for the club. Eric Truscott and Scott Beever went 2-4 while Ryan Murray added two doubles. Scott Peters also picked up his first career hit in his first at bat when he cracked a single in a losing effort.

The game scheduled for Friday, June 9 against Oak River Dodgers will now be played on Father’s Day at 6 p.m. Beer gardens will open at 4 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. while food will also be served on site.

Other games this week that will miss the press deadline feature Comets heading to Oak River to take on the Dodgers on June 14. We return home to play Reston Rockets on Friday, June 16. Next week we are on the road again as we head to Elkhorn on June 21 to play the Expos. All games are slated for 7 p.m. start times.
