Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – Many athletes will be playing in front of the home crowd at this year’s Special Olympics Manitoba Summer Games.
The games will be hosted in Brandon and golfing events will take place at the Shilo Country Club.
Soccer coach Cole Dickson says it’s nice for the athlete’s support group to get to see them live.
"Definitely big for them, because a lot of them get to have their family members and friends and care takers come out to see them," says Dickson, "When it’s in Winnipeg, it’s a little tougher to travel."
Coach Steven Price says the athletes should have fun when they compete.
"I think it is going to be fun for them, I think it’s very nice for them to be here."
Price adds, "I stress they have a lot of fun when it’s time to play, It’s all about having them here and doing the job they need to get done."
One of those athletes is golfer Tammy Lumex who says this will be the first time competing in front of friends and family.
"It is actually quite exciting, this is my first year competing at the provincials in my home town," says Lumex, "I’ve competed in other areas, but in my home town I am super excited."
All sporting events are in action on Saturday with the closing Ceremonies at the HLC at 6pm.
