Chicago, IL (CKLQ) – It was a busy day on the Wheat Kings hockey front, as well as a big day for Kelly McCrimmon and the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday.
The Brandon Wheat Kings have four prospects donning the Maple Leaf at the U17 Camp later this summer. They include former first round bantam draft choice Braden Schneider, as well as forwards Ben McCartney, Johnny Hooker and Kyle Bettens
Meanwhile, 42 prospects looking to earn an invitation to December’s National Junior Team selection camp will make their way to Plymouth, MI, for the Canada’s National Junior Team Development Camp. Among the invitees are Brandon captain’s Nolan Patrick and Tanner Kaspick as well as all-star defenceman Kale Clague.
As well, the Wheat Kings announced the winner of their Early Bird Season Ticket giveaway.
Dave MaGuire of Brandon won a trip for two to Las Vegas to watch the Golden Knights play the Winnipeg Jets.
Tuesday’s draw came after last week’s deadline that saw 1,625 tickets purchased for the 2016-17 Western Hockey League season.
Speaking of the Knights, they unveiled their new jerseys on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, my mid-western USA road trip continued this morning. After a quick breakfast in Bloomington, MN, we continued our journey to Chicago.
662 KM’s later (And a few wrong turns in downtown Chicago) we made it to our hotel.
Our home for the week is the absolutely beautiful Cambria Hotel & Suites on the Magnificent Mile.
Our first order of business once checked in, was to take the subway to historic Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs pick up a 4-0 win over the San Diego Padres.
The game was sold out and was arguably one of the most unique and fascinating sporting events i’ve ever attended.
If you are a baseball fan, I would highly recommend adding Wrigley to your bucket list.
Speaking of the Cubs, Wheat Kings Captain Nolan Patrick will be on hand at Wednesday afternoon’s game vs the Padres as he is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
If all goes according to plan, I will have photos and reaction from field level on what is likely to go down as one of the coolest moments of this young mans life.
