Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped their third straight game on Friday night, falling 4-2 to the Kootenay ICE at Westman Place.

For the 3rd straight night, Brandon found themselves in a hole early. The ICE scored four goals in an 8:00 span to open up a commanding 4-0 lead in the first period.

Ty Lewis would get Brandon on the board late in the period with a powerplay goal but the goal came too late in the frame to generate any momentum.

Head Coach David Anning elected to make a change between the pipes to start the 2nd period as Dylan Myskiw took over for Logan Thompson. Thompson allowed four goals on fifteen shots. Myskiw would make 12 saves in his 2nd relief appearance of the season.

Ty Ettinger would get his first WHL goal midway through the 2nd period to cut the Kootenay lead to two but it wasn’t enough as the Wheat Kings failed to mount a comeback.

Duncan McGovern turned aside 33 shots between the pipes for the ICE while Brandon failed to convert on several quality scoring chances including a pair of short-handed chances in the 2nd period.

The ICE finished the night 1/6 on the powerplay while Brandon scored one goal on two powerplay chances.

The two teams will meet again tonight (Saturday) at Westman Place. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 with the Q-Country pre-game show beginning at 7:00.
