Virden, MB (CKLQ) – A three-goal third period helped the Virden Oil Capitals beat the Winnipeg Blues by a score of 5-3 to end the first half of the MJHL season strong.
Tyler Kirkup scored his 20th goal of the season for the first goal of the game early on in the second period.
Josh Belcher scored the game-winner for the Oil Capitals, with just over eight minutes to go in the third period to put the Virden up 4-2. The teams traded goals each to get the score to 5-3.
With the win, Virden ends the first half with 46 points, good for tied in 4th place with Winkler. The team is only three points back of second place, while they are still way back of Steinbach who lead the MJHL with 57 points.
