Steinbach, MB (CKLQ) – A late goal by the Steinbach Pistons put the game into overtime, but the Virden Oil Capitals prevailed in a shootout to win 3-2 over the league leaders.
Steinbach tied the game with 12 seconds left in the game with a William Koop goal.
The game had to go into overtime with a 2-2 score, but nothing was solved.
In the shootout, after the first three shots both teams scored two goals, with a clutch goal by Dylan Thiessen to extend the skills competition. After a scoreless fourth round, Kirklan Lycar scored in the fifth round to give the Oil Capitals a win.
Virden goaltender Riley McVeigh stopped 34 of 36 shots plus three of the five shootout chances. Meanwhile Landyn Cochrane scored two goals.
Virden stays in third place with the win, while Steinbach continues their run at being first in the league, having an 11 point advantage over the second place Portage Terriers.
