Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – It was a lacklustre effort on Tuesday night as the Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the last place Edmonton Oil Kings.
Yorkton’s Brett Kemp scored the overtime winner on a 2on1 feed from David Kope to give the Oil Kings just their 11th victory of the season.
Brandon had 1-0 and 2-1 leads on goals from Ty Lewis and Baron Thompson but the Oil Kings responded on both occasions.
Jayden Platz and Scott Atkinson had the goals for the Oil Kings, both of which came on seeing eye shots.
The Wheat Kings finished the night 1/4 on the powerplay while the Oil Kings failed to convert on their three opportunities.
Dylan Myskiw got the start for Brandon and turned aside 22 shots, while former Wheat Kings prospect Josh Dechaine was named the games first star after making 34 saves.
The Wheat Kings will wrap up this five-game homestand with a pair of games vs Central Division opponents this weekend. Calgary is in town on Friday with the Medicine Hat Tigers rolling into Westman Place on Saturday night.
Both games are set to start at 7:30.
