Seattle, WA (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings let another late lead slip away on Tuesday as they dropped a 6-5 shootout to the Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Wheat Kings lead 4-1 and 5-3 on the night but the reigning WHL Champions kept coming back in the game and forced overtime with the goalie pulled and just over 1:10 left on the clock.
Zach Andrusiak lead the way for the T-Birds with a goal an two assists while Donavan Neuls scored once in regulation and then netted the shootout winner to earn Seattle their fifth consecutive win.
Ty Lews (2G-2A) had a fantastic night offensively for Brandon while Evan Weinger (2A), and Stelio Mattheos (1G-1A) each chipped in with multi-point nights.
The loss was Brandon’s 6th straight and drops them to 0-3-1-1 on the US portion of this seven-game road trip.
Brandon will have two more chances to get back in the win column this weekend when they set up shop in Cranbrook, BC for a pair of games vs the Kootenay ICE.
