Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Bobcats women’s volleyball team was in tough with a struggling MacEwan Griffins team, but eventually got past them to win an important late-season game.
The Bobcats picked up the crucial 3-2 win to sit in the Canada West playoff picture with five matches left.
BU was trailing in the first set until Michelle Egger went back to serve and took the Bobcats on a 5-1 run to take control of the first set before the Bobcats closed it out 25-20 on a emphatic kill from Nikala Majewski.
Egger’s impressive rookie season continues as the Swiss import put up 14 kills, six digs, and five aces on the night.
The win moves Brandon’s record to 9-10 on the season, while MacEwan drops to 2-17.
Meanwhile, in the men’s game, the Bobcats made quick work of the MacEwan Griffins, beating them 3-0.
Elliott Viles was BU’s top scorer with 10 kills. Seth Friesen added nine and Matt Powell provided eight for the Bobcats, who boosted their record to 13-6.
BU is hoping to host a first round playoff series and they can accomplish that with a top-four finish in the regular season standings.
Both Bobcats teams play again on Saturday, starting with then woman’s game at 5:00pm, and the men’s game at 6:45pm.
