Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team will be heading out on the road for a play-in game in the Canada West playoffs.
The Bobcats will travel two hours east to take on the Manitoba Bisons on February 9 at 7:30pm, with the winner of the game heading to the Canada West quarter-finals the next week.
The Bobcats made the playoffs by beating Thompson Rivers in the final game of the season, getting to a record of 9-11.
The Bobcats were the last team to qualify for the playoffs, and have the worst record of all 12 teams to make the playoffs, but the conference rates teams by RPI, and the Bobcats ended up with the 10th best record with an RPI of 0.4918.
The Bisons finished with a record of 12-8, good for fourth in the Canada West, but their RPI hurt them, putting them at 7th in the conference.
The two teams squared off in November in Winnipeg, with each team winning a game over the weekend series.
Brandon won the first game 88-85 in overtime when Tyvon Cooper scored the game winning three-point shot with less than two seconds left on the clock. The next night, Manitoba won 85-84 with two free throws near the end of the game.
