Virden, MB (CKLQ) – The Manitoba Junior Hockey League has announced changes to the finals schedule between the Virden Oil Capitals and the Steinbach Pistons.
The MJHL decided to postpone Sunday’s game two in the Turnbull Cup finals between the Virden Oil Capitals and the Steinbach Pistons after the tragic accident Friday in Saskatchewan involving the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team.
The new schedule also postpones the originally scheduled Game 3 that was to be played in Steinbach on Tuesday, and resumes the series on Thursday in Virden for Game 2 at 7:30pm.
The series could be extended to April 21 and 23 if Game 6 and Game 7 needs to be played.
Remaining Schedule:
Game 2 – Steinbach @ Virden 7:30pm April 12
Game 3 – Virden @ Steinbach 7:30pm April 14
Game 4 – Steinbach @ Virden 7:30pm April 16
Game 5 – Virden @ Steinbach 7:30pm April 19
Game 6 – Steinbach @ Virden 7:30pm April 21
Game 7 – Virden @ Steinbach 7:30pm April 23
The Oil Capitals lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 after beating the Pistons on Friday.
The MJHL says when the series resumes on Thursday, a ceremony will be held prior to the start of the game to pay tribute and to support the Humboldt Broncos organization.
The logistics of the pre-game ceremony are being planned, but it will involve the collaboration of both team’s players and hockey staffs, as well as on-ice Officials.
