It’s hard to say when members of the Manitoba Legislature will break for the summer.

The spring sitting of the Manitoba legislature could be extended by up to three weeks after a deal between the government and Opposition regarding the budget fell through.

Tory MLA and Deputy House Speaker Doyle Piwniuk isn’t sure what will happen and he says it’s up to the respective party house leaders to reach a deal to bring this sitting to a conclusion. “It’s up to the NDP to see what they want to do to make sure we can do the appropriations that would allow us to pay government bills.”

Piwniuk says if things fall into place they could be on their summer break by this weekend.

“We’ve done the same kind of thing when we were in opposition during the P.S.T. thing you know but that’s when we negotiated with all parties to come up with predictable sittings and now the NDP broke the deal

The extended sitting could end in a few days, or the government could add another three weeks on top of the extension, if the extra time is needed.
