Dauphin, MB (CKLQ) – The Stanley Cup will be crashing the Trotz’s family reunion this summer.
The former Washington Capitals coach, Barry Trotz, will be returning to his hometown of Dauphin on August 22 with Lord Stanley’s Cup.
First cousin of Trotz, Karen Rauliuk, says there will be discussions over the next couple of days on what will happen in the community when the Cup comes to the city.
She says he will be seeing family, but they have a few plans in the works.
According to Rauliuk, it will be the first time the Stanley Cup will come to the city with a champion player or coach.
"For the city it is quite important," said Rauliuk. "Barry is putting Dauphin on the map again."
Trotz has spent a good portion of his life in the community of Dauphin, playing for the Dauphin Kings in the MJHL, and later coaching the team in 1985.
His parents, and a good part of his family still live in the area.
"It’ll be nice to see Barry again," said Rauliuk. "And to finally see him with the Stanley Cup will be something special."
