On July 22 Jack Kelm of Deloraine was ejected from his vehicle and later found in a ditch; as a result, the 18-year-old is now paralyzed from the chest down.

The community of Deloraine is rallying together and hosting a benefit on August 10 to raise funds for future medical and living expenses, including rehabilitation and wheelchair adaptation, according to the cause's GoFundMe page.

There will be a steak fry and three types of auctions, to which people can donate items. They can be dropped off at Rendezvous Restaurant in Deloraine, or the Pringles Sports Excellence in Boissevain by August 8.

Sara Rommelaere, a spokesperson for 'Team Kelmer', says the goal of the benefit is to raise at least $20,000, which is also the target amount of the GoFundMe page.

"Jack's a good kid, everybody likes him. He loves to have a good time, he's very friendly, he's worked at a number of places around the community and always greets everybody with a smile," Rommelaere said.
