Officers have released the name of a man who died following a shooting Friday evening in the 500 block of Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.

Trevor Abraham Harper, 20, was rushed to hospital in critical condition after the shooting but died from injuries, said police.

Investigators say the victim was with two other people when they were confronted and a firearm was discharged around 6:30 p.m. Police would not say if it was one or more people who approached the victim.

"We're not acknowledging that this is gang motivated in any way at this point, but certainly we are not ruling it out either," said police spokesperson Const. Jason Michalyshen on the weekend. "We are looking at all aspects of this incident and trying to determine what the motive behind was and if there was an actual motive."

No arrests have been made and investigators say they continue to interview witnesses.

Officers are asking anyone with information on this incident who has not yet talked to investigators to call police at 986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 786-8477.
