An 18-year-old man was hit by gunfire in Winnipeg on Wednesday morning, said police.

Officers were called around 12:45 a.m. to the 300 block of College Avenue.

Police found an 18-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. Paramedics took the teen to hospital where he was treated and released.

Officers learned an altercation broke out between the 18-year-old male and a group of males, which led to a gun being fired.

Police continue to investigate.
