Aboriginal students graduating from the University of Manitoba are being honoured Saturday afternoon.

The 22nd annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow commemorates the academic achievement of 158 Aboriginal students.

"I wish to offer my personal congratulations to all of our Aboriginal students graduating this spring,'' said David Barnard, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manitoba. "They are all great ambassadors for their communities and for the University of Manitoba."

Barnard said the student's achievements range from undergraduate degrees to graduate degrees to professional designations.

The ceremonies are taking place in the Investors Group Athletic Centre and began at 10:30 a.m. with a pipe ceremony conducted by Elder Charlie Nelson.

Graduates will receive certificates and gifts at 2:30 p.m. An honour song will be presented to the graduates as they enter the circle to be congratulated by the audience.

A feast is being held at 5:00 p.m. and a second grand entry will be held at 7:00 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
