Nearly 400 kids lined up at the Convention Centre on Saturday hoping to get their big break.

Kids age 15 and under tried out for the YTV reality series called The Next Star, a singing competition in its fourth season.

Auditions are being held across the country looking for Canada's next singing superstar. Sarah, who is 12-years-old said she's never done something like this.

"Nervous, I have butterflies in my stomach," said Sarah.

Like all the other kids trying out, Sarah was dressed to impress and hoping she had what it takes to impress the judges.

"You know it when you see it," said Christopher Ward. "I just love being surprised every time those kids come in and do their thing for us."

Saturday was the open call for young talent and those picked to move on sing for the judges on Sunday.

Once auditions are over, the judges will pick six young stars to mentor. They will be given assignments and advice on how to be famous, but in the end, it's the viewers who will pick Canada's next star.
