Manitoba Public Insurance will begin mailing out rebate cheques on Tuesday, said officials.

In March, the Public Utilities Board ordered MPI to return $320 million to motorists, saying the public auto insurer had too much money in its reserve accounts.

Approximately 45 per cent of what people paid in their basic insurance premiums in the 2009-2010 year is being returned.

MPI said the average rebate cheque will be about $420.

Officials said if people don't receive their rebate cheque by June 6 or June 7, they can call (204) 985-7000.
