Winnipeg police responded to multiple stabbings late Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Shortly before 12 a.m., officers responded after a 20-year-old woman was found with slash wounds to the face in the 500 block of St. Mary Avenue.

The woman was treated and released. A 39-year-old female had also been assaulted to the upper body.

Police said the incident started in a back lane near the 200 block of Balmoral Street around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the two women were approached by an unknown man asking for a cigarette. When the women were unable to provide one, the man became aggressive and attacked the two women, said police. The 20-year-old woman later realized she'd been cut, said officers.

The male suspect is described as aboriginal in appearance, about 26 - 32 years old, about five feet six inches tall (167 centimetres) with long, thin, brown hair in a ponytail with bangs. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 986-6668, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.

A few hours later, at around 3:30 a.m. Friday, police located a 17-year-old male with stab wounds to the upper body in the 600 block of Portage Avenue. The teen was taken to hospital and is listed in stable condition. No arrests have been made and police continue to investigate.

Just before 4:30 a.m., officers were called to the first 100 block of Mayfair Place. Two males had been socializing when an argument escalated and a 26-year-old man was stabbed, said police. The victim was taken to hospital and is in stable condition. A 19-year-old man is in custody and is facing weapons-related charges, said officers.
