Officials said 7,158 season tickets had been bought by 4:30 p.m. Friday for the NHL's return to Winnipeg.

The tickets went on sale Wednesday to Manitoba Moose season ticket holders.

On Saturday, June 4, tickets will go on sale to the general public starting at 12 p.m.

"We went from thinking this might make it through the weekend to thinking this might be over come Saturday," said Scott Brown, a spokesperson for True North.

In Brandon, former premier Gary Doer said he was also aiming to get tickets.

"A number of friends and I are going to try to get on the list for season tickets and that will be fun," said Doer, who was in Brandon to receive an honorary degree.

True North's goal is to reach 13,000 season tickets and it has started an online campaign dubbed "Drive to 13,000." More information is available online at www.driveto13.com

If the 13,000 season ticket goal is reached, there will likely only be about 500 to 800 seats left per game for people wanting single-game tickets, once sales for suites and seats reserved by the NHL are factored in.

For those hoping to get tickets Saturday, Scott Brown from True North advised people should set up a Ticketmaster account ahead of time and have a good idea of where they want to sit in the MTS Centre.
