The Canadian Red Cross is now offering clean-up kits to residents of St. Laurent whose homes were either heavily damaged or destroyed by high winds and waves along Lake Manitoba.

The clean-up kits include basic supplies like mops, garbage cans and brooms but also aim to combat health concerns with mould and antibacterial spray.

Red Cross personnel are also assessing flooded areas to determine and fill other needs. Since flooding began this spring, the Red Cross says more than 6,000 Manitobans have been forced to flee their homes in the face of rising waters.

The clean-up kits will be offered from 10-5 on Saturday and 10 to noon on Sunday at the St. Laurent Municipal Office Recreation Centre.

This week, some residents and cottage owners along Lake Manitoba were allowed back onto their properties for the first time after winds up to 90 kms per hour whipped up waves and damaged more than 700 lakefront properties on May 31st.
