Wish: eBrandon blood donor challenge for Feb 2nd and 3rd.

This wish has been granted!

This is an open challenge to those who have been wanting to go donate for a long time but either "have not found the time" or have been "too chicken" to do so. This is your chance to give back if you haven't yet already found a wish you feel you were able to fulfill. In order to consider this wish granted I am looking for at least 15-20 eBrandon members to call Canadian blood services at 1-888-2DONATE and book an appointment for either Wed Feb 2nd or Thurs Feb 3rd and then once the donation is complete let me know that they have done so. I have mine booked for Thurs Feb 3rd around 1pm should anyone else care to book around that particular time.
The clinic worker informed me that they run Wednesdays and Thursdays (11:30-2:30, 4:00-7:30) and that there are plenty of openings for these two dates. He wished me to inform you that you must be 17-61, Feeling well that day (no colds/flu), Have not had dental work or flu shot within the two days prior and have not had a tat or piercing done in at least 6 months. People who have traveled outside of Canada and the US might have to talk to their nurses on the phone to see if they are eligible. I am not clear on the regulations re pregnancy but I believe you have to be 6 months postpartum (? ask when booking) I hope you will take me up on this wish/ challenge. It is something that I myself only started doing within the last couple of years and I really wished I had done it earlier.

My daughter is planning to donate blood on her seventeenth birthday (if she does not have a cold).

I think that is a terrific way to publicly declare that she is mature and therefore should be allowed to drive.

Unfortunately, I am no longer able to donate so she needs to pick up the torch I have dropped.

Talk to your teen about how they could save their friend's life by having the blood they need following a traffic accident.

Thanks everyone! The support is greatly appreciated! I will hopefully be able to post the final donor tally here by the following wknd. No names will be used as to preserve confidentiality.

Katwalk: Tell your daughter that she's pretty great chicka for doing this! She would be helping people across the board. Transfusions are performed every day whether it be due to a critical accident, in the operating room or to regularly treat someone with a blood disorder (ie Anemia). She will be happy to know that by doing this she will not only be helping to save someone but to also help enhance somebody's quality of life as well!

Hi! Will you count me in? I am going to donate Feb 7th in Hamiota. Come on out. Please people consider going into Brandon, the nurses are so nice there and you can stop at any time if you are too uncomfortable. It only takes an hour, save 3 lives, free cookies drinks after!

To make it really comfortable for you, drink lots of water the day you plan to donate, and some sugar (maybe I just pretend it makes me feel better) Relax your arm, it will be less painful than getting needles, and it stops hurting as soon as the needle is in. You get to lay down too.

Try it, become a hero for someone.

I really really want to do this. But When I get needles or blood tests I freak out and cry and sometimes faint. Would they put up with me, or would they get angry and not want me to be there?

Like Mittens, I used to hate needles. But my first donation was with a bunch of friends. (They had brought the mobile unit out to the Calgary Transit garage and I was to "macho" to not do it. If I could drive a bus, a little needle should be no problem, right?) It is better if you are with friends the first time. I turned my head and focused on a friend rather than what the nurse was doing.

Many years ago, my sister and I were making final Christmas Eve preparations when she said she had to donate. She is one of those organized people with the Red X on her calendar every 8th Monday. I was overdue so we made that our first stop.

While we were pumping it out, we overheard a nurse comment to another attendant that with these two donations the shipment would be ready for the neo-natal clinic at the Foothills. My sister and I confirmed what we had heard and almost broke into tears. Our Christmas gift was going to keep somebody's baby alive at least through its first Christmas.

If it helps, think about the infant and how precious your blood can be for them.

Love this idea and think it's a great way to get people to contribute to a very worthwhile cause. I've chatted with Je Suis un Ananas and will be donating an eBrandon t-shirt and mug to be awarded by random draw of everyone that has helped fulfill this wish. Je Suis will be handling the rest including picking the winner and getting them their eBrandon shirt and mug...
Great to see folks rallying behind some of the things that matter most to the community!

I can't donate blood but if anyone needs a body to help look after little ones while you are donating, I am more than willing to help out.
Just PM me if you would like me to help.

I thought it would be something cool to try to organize. Especially since so many people I talk to tell me they would love to go but are too chicken to do it alone. Seeing as they had tons of open appoint times (and had called me repeatedly to rebook) I figured why not encourage people to go on those two days. The fellow I spoke to just told me to tell everyone interested to book a time so there really is nothing official set up with Blood services to indicate we are doing this at this point in time. Maybe in the future we might be able to set it up so that we can donate under the eBrandon name much like what is done with local businesses and colonies. Thank you to everyone for your interest and continued support. I know that the draw eBrandon gear has helped in the recruitment process so thanks again to Adam. Perhaps when the eBrandon signature sweat pants go on sale we will be able to convince more lol ;)

I wish that I could donate, but a blood transfusion in the UK has made me ineligible indefinitely :( I used to donate up until then. Funny how docs say that I have nothing to worry about have a transfusion in England, but that I am now a risk to donate.

So you went Busy girl??? Did i miss your pm in my inbox (could very well be as I've been having technical difficulties) Did your hubby complete it also? If so you can pm me his name or username and I will put his into the draw as well. So far I have only entered those who pm'd me to let me know they had gone so if anyone else has yet to pm me please do so! Even though the final tally so far hasn't reached the number I indicated to consider it granted I still consider it to be a wish fulfilled. Given all of the positive feedback the challenge was a huge success in that many participants faced their fears and considered the experience worthy of doing again all over again. I am so proud of everyone for "nutting up" and hopping into that chair to support such a worth while cause. From the sounds of things the clinic was busy so I'm hoping that at least a few of those other donors were fellow ebrandon followers who after reading the wishes thread took it upon themselves to look into it. The clinic had no formal knowledge of this challenge so I apologize if any of you mentioned it and got some puzzled looks. I simply followed the instructions the gentleman on the phone gave me which was just to pass along the required information for you to book (1-888-2Donate is not exclusive to Brandon) I really enjoyed chatting with everyone via pm's (you guys are awesome) and I wish you all the best of luck!!
