Educational Assistant - Home School Liaison/General

Purpose of Position
The Home School Liaison (Elementary Schools) provides a communication link between Brandon School Division staff, the students, their families and community resources. The primary focus of the Home School Liaison is to record, monitor and follow up on student attendance and related issues on an individual basis.
The Educational Assistant (General) provides classroom support in the areas of student management and teacher support as outlined in the job profile.
Duties and Responsibilities
Are established by the School Principal within the parameters of the job profile(s).
Ability to follow standardized work methods and processes while working with children to support learning.
Basic knowledge of computers and office software for using spreadsheets/school attendance systems.
Reading and understanding is required to work with others, follow/give directions/instructions, respond to requests and follow up with students.
Basic mathematical skills are used to compile attendance, basic writing skills are required to prepare correspondence and attendance records.
Interpersonal and communication skills to work directly with students in a classroom environment, including the ability to motivate, explain and manage potentially difficult/emotional situations, and to deal with parents, teachers and other staff.
Ability to function at the level of knowledge required of the students, e.g., in English, mathematics, etc.
Class 5 Driver’s license.
English as an Additional Language.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is preferred; suicide intervention training may be necessary.
Basic understanding of child and adolescent development and behaviour.
